Can't save on adobe illustrator

When I try to save on adobe illustrator the only formats that come up are

.AI
.FXG
.PDF
.EPS
.AIT
.SVG
.SVGZ

why are these the only ones and I can't save as .PNG or anything?

You need to export it out of Illustrator to get it as an image. Those are vector based extensions, which is what Illustrator does best, hence why you need to export it.
