My brother is travelling in Australia, would it be free to text him given I have a contract phone with unlimited texts?

Check with whatever network you're with to see how much they'll charge you for texts out of the UK.

If your brother is using a UK SIM card in Australia, it'll be standard network rates for you, he'll pay for sending/receiving.

Ignore what other people are saying, it'd be ******ed if the network charged you, who says you know they're abroad? Hence why they charge the person who is roaming.

This is what I mean, it was normal standard rates but it was charges for sending/receiving

Just get something like pingchat, if you both have a smartphone and 3G in your contract. It'll be a lot cheaper!

By travelling I assume his brother is taking his UK SIM card to Aus, using data abroad, especially outside the EU, is a big nono.

He'd be saving money buying an AU sim with 3g
