HELLO FRIENDS, that is the list for the mercury awards and here is my VERY important comments about them
It seems quite a boring list this year :( The new Elbow record is so very dire and I have no idea why it is here.
Simcock is the token jazz act, but it could be their year (!?)
PJ Harvey probably has the best on the list for me, but having won once already, does that discount her?
For the more well known albums, 21, On A Mission and Discovery, they are actually pretty solid pop albums and quite deserving to be on, deserving enough to win? Not in my opinion, they like to give it to the bands that sell like 67 albums anyway
Everything Everything are quite polarising, good in small doses (his voice agh) and with only about 3 good songs on the album, this is probably the one with the least chance.
Anna Calvi is basically a not as good PJ Harvey, and Ghostpoet seems to be a dark horse this year.
James Blake is my pick from the bunch, really think he'll win (but Jamie Woon would have been a better pick)
Metronomy is one of my favourites of the year, with so many killer songs, I hope it stands a chance, but the popular opinion of them is that they are too boring
The rest I don't know or forgot!
SO WHAT DIDN'T MAKE IT??
well for one thing WILD BEASTS SMOTHER ISN'T ON THE LIST WHICH IS EASILY THE BEST ALBUM THIS YEAR!!
Sad not to see The Go! Team or Friendly Fires on, as I love those albums so.. :(
IF YOU READ IT THIS FAR - what do you like best, what do you hope will win?
