To Kill a Mockingbird (http://mathewgillings.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/harper/) by Harper Lee is a really good book if you can get your hands on it. Sooooo many issues are raised and it really does just make you think about society. You'll end up becoming a new kind of racist, trust me! :P
Other good books I've read recently are the Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and also The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Really interesting books, but both completely different.
Where are you going on holiday, anywhere nice? :) 16 days until I'll be flying to Florida for most of the month, woooo! :D

The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber. It's a bit rude in places, but it's honestly one of the best books that I've ever read.

Oh and I also recommend Emily Brontė's Wuthering Heights and Charlotte Brontė's Jane Eyre as they're classics that are worth reading at least once.
Khaled Hosseini - A Thousand Splendid Suns :)

One that wont fill up your 12 hours is Journey to The River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. It's about a young girl who is taken in by her relatives who live by the Amazon, and it chronicles some of her life alongside her new parents, sisters and accompanying social worker

The Harry Potter series. If you've never read them then read them, and never turn back.
