Basically, I want to root and put CM7 On it, but im wondering 2 points:
A) How the **** would I do it, I cant really find a full guide? Its running the latest 2.2, Can I root and use CM7 because of that?
B) Is there any point? i'm on contract and it wont run out till 2013, what happens if I break it, how do I revert back?
I'm fed up of the phone lagging and being slow :(
Probably nooby questions, I apologize, But 'not really sure with it :)
You should've got a Blackberry..

S-OFF is a major step and ensures future updates won't bork your root, well done considering you didn't know where to begin in the OP :P
Have you looked on XDA-Developers? http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=701 There's two guides and an information post stickied at the top :P
Also I would highly recommend CM7 :)

Found the CM7 Wiki, followed that, AlphaREV installed Clockwork Recovery, then had to wipe, and use the recovery to install the ZIP, then do Google apps. Was much easier then I first expected it to be!
Had a tiny issue with apps not installing, but a reboot seems to of sorted that for now :) my Wildfire is now 10000% better, I have overclocked the CPU by about 50mhz currently, going to see how it effects battery, is that a wise idea?
Seems I may like my 2 year contract now ;)
Cheers for the help :)

CPU overclocking should be fine, CM7 won't let you do anything dangerous unless you go out of your way to do it, just watch the battery life as you say. You might also want to look into Apps2SD+ (or Apps2SD Legacy) which will move entire apps onto a partition on your SD Card rather than bits of them, that way you can install 100s of apps :P
@ Shar, if something goes wrong you can always roll back unless it's a radio update. Rooting (once you've got the guides) should only take 10 - 15 mins. Also your phone will be noticeably faster without HTC Sense.

Including downloading files and reading, half an hour, maybe a bit longer, its really easy! I can give you the links I followed if you like? Or do you have MSN? I can walk you through it?

Im currently running at about 570mhz, it came with 527mhz, what would you say I should go up to, realistically? Any other good apps that could speed up my phone or anything? might overclock it to maximum, run a benchmark then bring it back down to about 600?
