View Full Version : Summer Holidays don't last long enough!

I think we need too have our summer holidays extended! It seems like they are only just beginning and yet are about too end (in Scotland). Sure 6 weeks seems like a long time but it really isn't.... Plus they expect us too do homework over the summer! Conclusion - School sucks, but it's got to be done :/

To be quite honest, it is plenty and tbh I think it would be a much short period which much more spread out smaller holidays but isn't because a) its the popular time for holidays and b) the blazing heat in summer is horrible to work in and the summer holiday takes up a fair chunk of it. If anything, I would have preferred to have shorter holidays. I've been off properly since around june 20th (but between that exam and my last was like 2 weeks soo...) and it's become dull with the lack of movies and general lack of things to do now whereas if the holidays are more spaced out you can see a different movie in each one (hypothetically) and you can repeat doing things without it getting repeatitive. So really if I had it my way I'd cut 2 weeks off of it and put it around the beginning of june and push easter back at the same time. Then maybe cut another week off and put it later in the year. But as said there is the horrible heat to work with then which could just discourage learning. I think the education system on the whole needs to be looked at to be quite honest.

what lol just wait till you have to actually work, in every weather and even if you're ill then you can complain :P 6 weeks is a long, long time and I agree with dbgtz, shorter holidays are better. i've been off since 10th June (last exam) and don't go back to college till September. can't wait to go back i'm so bored :(

Exactly! I get about 6 weeks off a year. Enjoy the summer holidays whilst you can, because you once you get a proper job, you'll be lucky to get 2 weeks off at a time

6 weeks is more than enough so stop crying. You can play Habbo after school when you go back, don't worry kiddo.

I just re-read and noticed you said "school sucks". Trust me, when you leave school for the last time you will miss it sooner or later. And as Lord Sugar once said (roughly), take what you can from school as what you're getting is free.

Also out of curiosity, what year are you in?

Here in America we get 11 weeks off for the summer, but it does seem to go by very fast. Although I'm satisfied with how long our break is, if it was any longer I probably wouldn't want to go back to school lol.

what weather? It's crap 99% of the time LOL. Why would you want them extended? Surely them being shorter but you're always using them in a productive way makes more sense.

We have short summers compared to USA because of half term breaks. Quit complaining.

Also, wait til you do exams... the summer becomes very very very boring after about a month or so after finishing

I have done exams....

I mean final exams, A2 levels or the scots equivalent

Myomoto-08
28-07-2011, 02:41 PM
I am doing them when i go back, in Scotland we don't do A2's or whatever we just do an A level over a 1 year course. :) Instead of being called an A-level it is called a Higher. :D

Inseriousity.

god, tell me about it. i had to go back in my last term and i didn't even have any lessons, just rehearsals (that we had to arrange for ourselves) for our performance (that we had to arrange). who exactly am i paying here.

In case you were wondering... Scottish Highers are equivalent to English AS-Levels. AS-level being the first half of an A-level, the second half being an A2-level. Scottish Advanced Highers are equivalent to a whole A-level, but they are done over the course of a single year (whereas a complete A-level is normally done over 2 years, 1 for AS and 1 for A2).

Blatantly because we can afford to keep our schools open longer

Six weeks is plenty in my opinion. I get bored after a while?
