I've a website with profanity in it's name - is it too much?

Hi,

I've a website which contains a swear word in it's name. It's not directed at anyone but I'm worried it may prove difficult to try and get people visiting it with it in there.

What do you reckon and if you don't like it, do you have any other name suggestions?

Well, its saying it how it is, your sites been around a long time, so it cant be doing that much damage?

It depends really, it's saying it how it is which I'm sure everyone would agree with. But then again you would probably get the odd person who would be against the name, and maybe it would be inappropriate for a minor to be reading it - but yeah, it can be taken in many different ways. But I don't personally see anything wrong with it.

It's kind of a double edged sword, on one hand you have a website that is a testament to someone you loved dearly, helping make people aware by expressing how you really feel about cancer in the site's name. I don't feel that anyone can blame you, it takes true passion to stick by that name.

But to some there's definitely no taking away from the profanity in the name, and some could say it dilutes the message a bit- perhaps that it doesn't display as much maturity.

I think the name you have is a good one, that doesn't stick to the usual expectations of such a topic. If you wanted to provide a sort of experience for younger people, you could purchase 'canceris...rubbish/poppycock/whatever you like' where the S word is replaced by asterisks in your signature. That might open up your site to more media acceptance or opportunities, just do what you think is in the best interests of people who want to see your site :)

Thanks all, asked the people off the Facebook page and at first had lots of negative comments but then loads more replied with positive ones (arguing against those leaving negatives).

Thank you for your lengthy reply. This idea has been long considered, but no idea how to execute it. I think the way to go is have a friendlier URL with just one page warning the user that the website they are about to enter does contain swearing. Once they click the button, it takes them to the normal page.

Doing this leads me to one problem: what URL to choose? Something like cancerisrubbish sounds incredibly boring!

I think it is appropriate because its in memory of your mother, and I read that it was her words... That's my opinion :)

I really like the site, its such a nice thing which you have done, I started reading some of the things on there and had tears forming :(

I would change the name but keep the quote from your mother on there somewhere, maybe under the banner or her picture
