To be honest I think if the media just paid no attention to them, a lot of them would just stop. Obviously that is not going to happen as that would be a risky move. Anyway they should just send in some armed forces and be done with it. They should really prepare for these so they can do it quickly rather then waiting several days before making a decision on what to do. Knowing the current government, they'll say they will send in the Army then just send in people in camo clothes from spending cuts. And you know, when one of the rioters gets hurt, they'll be getting free healthcare despite all the damage they have caused and then the person who was rioting will sue either the government or a company who owned a shop they burnt down for health and safety issues and win the claim. Our system fails sometimes.

i'm a black 21yr old female, and i'm so ashamed of what i am seeing. Some of the black community have this attitude where they think the world owes them something. People don't want to work hard to get out of their poverty, want things easy, and instead allow their kids to roam the roads at all hours of the night and allow them to think life on benefits is all there is. I came from a very poor family, with many generations suffering from poverty, but my mother never allowed me or my siblings to slack or continue the cycle of poverty. She made us very ambitious, courteous, and respectful of others. Now I am on my way to attaining a professional degree, and have worked hard to get where I am. Don't let these images affect your view of black people. We are all not like this. The police need to toughen up ASAP and take down the BBM network so people cant use their BBs to organise nonsense. These kids are getting excited thinking no-one can touch them!

There's plenty of Police - the issue is fear, we've lost it. Our justice system and our Police do not strike fear into the hearts of would-be criminals. We don't need that though (well we may do as we're reaching that extent), all that should have happened is that the Police should have ran, armed with batons and without the fancy gear and uniforms and grabbed each one throwing things and arrested them. In areas like Tottenham, Enfield, Brixton and across London we've allowed different cultures (which includes and grows black gun culture) to fester and not be eliminated by a pan-British culture and this only makes tensions worse.

On the poverty and jobs argument that I keep hearing, that these people are desperate poor people. Sorry, but we have a welfare system in this country which means you have no obligation to work should you not wish to and that you can live a fairly comfortable life on the teet of the state without having to lift a finger. Now I may disagree with this, but thats a fact and thus eliminates the excuses for the need to loot, burn and destroy. If you look at scenes from the shops being looted, these people clearly have no intention of having an education or wanting a job to better themselves - they are mindless thugs. I heard top clown, Labours' Mayoral marxoid candidate Ken Livingstone blaming the looting and so forth on the governments supposed scrapping of EMA, I don't even need to go into that lunacy.

The Police aren't exactly impressing me either, allowing buildings to burn and standing back while shops are looted in order to 'not inflame tensions' - sorry, but if the law is being broken then the Police should immediately go in, batons at the ready and grab those throwing things rather than standing behind shields. No, I was there listening to the police over the radio. Our local JD sports, CEX, Argos, and jewellery stores were all closing down their metal gates as I was going home. They're shutting the mall early today as well. This is all from the broadway security crew who use these radios in every shop to let us know what's going on. My manager and her key staff (well mostly the people who live nearby/she can take home) are still there.

Any other country and enough would have been enough by now. All the police are doing is creating temporary human walls. Most of these youths will be let off with merely a warning or community service. Even the ones who have committed more serious crimes see prison only as free food and shelter, they even have tv in there.

The justice system in this country looks inviting for many of these youths. Instead of focusing on giving the real criminals full sentences they deserve they instead focus on catching out those committing lesser crimes that they can make money from by fining people. It's all about the money.

In my opinion these yobs should be made to do hard labour, make them realise that they're really just a bunch of weak wimps and how hard the people they're vandalising actually work for their living.

i'm not very politically opinionated but this is increasingly making me angry. if i were cameron i would instruct the police to use whatever force neccessary, be it tasers, rubber bullets, or plain old 1980s style beat the **** out of these jobless scum to restore order. how do they even have the right to say the state owes them more when this country is known for its generous benefit culture?

The majority of people i'm seeing are blacks, im not being racist because I have much respect for those shop keepers who are standing up to it all.

I can see whites yes, but what I see is a bigger ratio of blacks, i'm sure black gangs have white friends, do you not?

When looking at the majority of pictures given out to us by the media, what I am saying, is that I am seeing a lot more blacks within those frames. And I'm not sure if its been said, but the black community from round that area have always called the metropolitan police racists.

I've just got back so i'm not entirely sure, but many of my friends statuses on Facebook are that they are now smashing the new Depot up. :/
