i'm looking into getting myself a job for many different reasons but the main reason is because I need to start growing up & sorting myself out...

I don't want to go back to college as Barnet has put me off College for life & also because idk what I want to do... I passed all required GCSE's apart from Maths... I was 3% off a C :'(

English- C
English Lit. - D
Maths- D
Science- B
Science Additional- C
ICT- B (only got 1/4 because some ******** deleted all my **** & I had a month to do it all again.)
Music- B
Food Tech- B
R.E- g (half :L)

If i was to go back to college what would u suggest. Also the main question is...

Where should I look for my 1st job? (even though I have looked everywhere)

Harsh reality to push you back to college: McDonalds or shelf-stacking at a supermarket. You should do some sort of practical skills course somewhere, like a mechanic or something like that.

thanks for the suggestions :)

I think an apprentiship is something i should look into...

Do a BTEC or an apprenticeship, cause if not, the only job you'll end up getting is something like at Asda or a rubbish dead end job like that. I'd definitely consider going back to college.

Do an IT BTEC Course, IT is exploding on the scene and everywhere will need people proficient in the skill.

Might have to travel far away to get a job seeing as everywhere is probably burnt down or looted in your area

In my personal opinion and from other people apprenticeships are terrible... Just cause you work and yehh get paid but like next to nothing... have to do the ********* parts of the job and get generally treated like **** in most places. Plus on top of working and earning like no money you will also have college work to do.

Personally i would just enroll on a Btec course, they are brilliant give you a lot more skills and enjoyment than an a level ever could... You should do something practical as you might enjoy it more.

What are your interests ?? :)

WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH THAT?!

That's what I thought. It is good, honest hard work. Why don't you see a careers advisor? There are apprenticeships around depending on what you are inetrested in. You can always go to College or Uni in later years if you want to. Many people do.

For your entire life? Personally I would feel a failure..

Having said that, some people start those jobs to raise a bit of cash while at college and stuff and really enjoy it, so do it for the rest of their lives. But in general, it would be because you can't get any other job..

I've worked in a supermarket for 4 years now, 1 1/2 of those as full time and whilst I have the brains to become more than what I am - I have a choice. I have my own reasons for not wanting to go into higher education and if you're looking down on the people that make the world turn round (i.e us who have the donkey jobs) then you should probably take a look at yourself. *REMOVED*

Instead of being a rude little boy, why don't you read my post.

"PERSONALLY I would feel a failure" - as my personal aim in everything I do is to get as higher as I can in whatever I do.
"Some people enjoy it" - I clearly said some people enjoy doing it, or want to do it.

So before you go on your pathetic little rant, why don't you read my post. You know, it might help.

I agree with you, I couldn't work at a supermarket for the rest of my life, a job with not so good money (except Lidl their money is pretty nice), pretty much a dead end job. If people want to work their then good for them though, somebody has to do it. It's just not for me.

That is what I was trying to say. Of course some people may have the grades to get further, but honestly enjoy working stacking shelves - maybe as they get to meet and talk to customers.

But it is definitely not for me.

Yes, because working in a supermarket is a dead end job. Do some research kiddies, please. It's probably got more opportunities available to me than most ex-grads. Real life has escaped you.

Alexx..

A dead end job is a job in which there is little or no chance of progressing and succeeding into a higher paid position. Such work is usually unskilled and the phrase usually applies to those working as shelf stackers, cleaners, or other menial jobs where the pay is low, and the hours are long.

oh. i guess i've been proved wrong then. What opportunities are available to you working in a supermarket, becoming a manager? How exciting.

Kiddies? really? i'm a year younger than you. Whatever, i'm not judging you for working at a supermarket, you think you're all high and mighty because you do, and honestly I don't know anyone who would be impressed with anyone working at a supermarket forever. Each to their own I guess.

You have no clue about how the world works. Like I said, on your pedestal looking down at the donkey workers. I am an intelligent guy, without blowing my own trumpet, but I decided to work and not learn after A Levels. Problemo? Comprende? Gracias.

I don't look down at the donkey workers you *REMOVED*, I'd take a job like that straight away, after all it's a job, it's money. I just don't want to do it for the rest of my life. You're blowing something completely out of proportion because somebody doesn't want to do your crappy job forever. *REMOVED*

Thanks :)

I'm going to Barnet (again ) for there open enrollment on friday next week. Even thouh they excluded me in March this year, do you reckon if I tell them honestly that I'm sorry for being childish & argumentative with the teachers. I've realized that I don't enjoy sitting at home/loitering on the streets with my friends & i actually want to become/do something with my life they'd give me a 2nd chance?

This is to do a BTEC 1st in Applied Science

------

I also am going to go to the open enrollment @ city & islington to do a BTEC in Information & Communication Technology, which is what I'd like to do but I do have a very high interest in Science just that the course @ c and i are full.

-----

I'm also going to try City & Westminster Kingsway College @ Kings Cross to do either of the above courses.

-----

I could do ICT or Music @ Woodhouse College but I don't think I could deal with all there high standards & deadlines & all that

-----

Finally, on the 16th of September I am going to some thing with my older cousin where there's a load of companies looking for recruits so hopefully I can get a part time/full time job depending on how my enrollments go.

I don't mean to dig it back up, but working in a supermarket is not a dead-end job. The current CEO of Tesco started out as a shelf-stacker, now he's at the top of one the biggest British firms.

You may well laugh at becoming a "manager" of a Supermarket but most earn around £60k, and should you go higher than manager of a Supermarket (which with hard-work and dedication it is possible) then you can easily earn six figures working for what is a supermarket.

Personally if things go wrong for me (or continue as they are...) I intend on starting out at the very bottom of a bank (Probably not an option to you if you failed Maths though), it's another career where you can start out at the bottom with little qualifications and with hard-work can reach anywhere within the organisation.

It's a waste of time trying to explain to them. They're young, naive and have no idea of how the world works. Like I said before, working in a supermarket or retail as an industry probably offers more opportunities than most ex-grads get.

This coming from 4 years of experience in the retail sector as opposed to the views of young persons who've probably only ever had a paperound. Not demeaning as most people have done it but don't try and claim you know something coming from a background of nothing. Jesus Christ.

I knew there was a reason I left this place.

The thing that I find funny is you calling us naive blah blah blah, yet you seem to think the CHANCE of getting anywhere from shelf stacking is really high? Yeah of course you CAN get promotions and end up as store manager, but it is sure as heck unlikely.

Paper round? Next joke. Worst pay in the world. However I do help my dad rent his properties out.

Oh. You left? Off you go then.

Yeah of course you CAN get promotions and end up as store manager, but it is sure as heck unlikely. There is the "chance" to get anywhere from shelf-stacking that's exactly what I'm saying, all the major supermarkets are full of opportunity for promotion. Whether you've got the potential is another thing but if you're capable of promotion, put in the hours and dedication, and have a knack for interviews/applying for jobs, you could quite easily work up from a shelf-stacker.

If you just work part-time doing the odd shift and doing all what's expected of you then the chances are you won't get any further as that's what most people to do but my point is, it is naive to call it a dead-end career as it ones of the few careers you can work up from the bottom and go from nothing to everything.
