Alright, here's the thing. My mum and her partner split and he took his fair share including the desktop computer. The computer was custom built by a friend of ours, and costed us £350 for 250gb tower, 17.5" screen, microsoft keyboard & mouse and a set of speakers. Cos I'll be buying the computer because only I'll be using it, do you think it would be better to:

Buy from the guy who custom builds computers

Buy parts separately

Look for a good deal in retailing shops

My price range is £300.

Thanks

I'd imagine that buying parts separately and building your own would be cheaper, and would give you more freedom in what you use. Might be wrong though!

On smaller budgets I am not sure there is much difference in price, but ni will put a guess on it still being cheaper to build yourself,

"Facepalm" A laptop is a computer :l

For £300 you would get a pretty crappy laptop.

I quite liked the link that Jahova posted, but that's probably too expensive considering the Monitor isn't included.

I'm only going to be using the computer for coursework, The Sims 2, facebook and Habbo & Habbox. So I don't know what gb I'd need, but I want it to be quick.

This would run them, just about, but you could upgrade it, and get a monitor, and still be in budget easily, Possibly get Windows 7 too :) (You'll need an external Disk Drive too, Unless you have the .ISO for sims 2)

Something like that would be ideal to run what you want, and with the 50 left you should be able to find some kind of moniter, somewhere.

For 300, you are going to struggle to find a decent computer, and monitor, you need to give a bit up on one end. You wont need great specs to run Habbo & Sims 2.

With that first link you posted with Argos, I would be able to get that for £226 using my sisters discount which is good and that monitor looks great. Thanks for those links, I get paid at 12 tonight so I might consider buying, but I might still look around, though. Thanks :)

I have to pay an extra £90 for Windows 7 for that. I prefer the links that Jack posted in regards to the PC. The speaker system sounds decent, will that play quality music, though?
