Okay, this is my first ever technology review.
Before I start, the Kaiser Baas Game Recorder is a way of Recording your XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PlayStation 2.
I am running a really awful Dell Inspiron 530 with Pentium Dual Core 2.5GhZ, 2GB RAM and Vista Home Premium.
In saying that, the recorder itself, has well... Weak requirements for use, so nearly every computer people buy now, will be able to run this.
The requirements are:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz, 2GB System Memory, 1GB HDD Space, Windows XP SP2 32Bit/Vista 32&64Bit/7 32&64Bit, Dedicated NVIDIA or ATI Graphics card that supports DirectX 9 or above, and a AC97 compatible sound card.
These requirements as I mentioned above, are pretty weak, however the lack of Macintosh capabilities really annoy me, as my standard MacBook is overall, faster than my PC that I am using the game recorder on right now.
To use it, you plug the USB in, and the Composite cables (Yellow/Red/White) into the USB, so this does not have HD. However, with my computer HD would make the device incredibly slow.
I never tested this device on the XBOX360, as I do not own one.
Use on Wii:
The use on Wii, for Wii Sports anyway, not that smooth, but actually playable, however when you record the Lag does not show. Only on your PC.
Use on the PlayStation 3:
Due to the PlayStation 3's higher definition of graphics and visuals, it makes all the games lag on my computer, on faster computers this lag will not occur. Playing Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction, the lag is very minor, however you notice it while playing Rock Band 3, as it requires 200 - 300ms of Audio Lag, and 150ms of Video Lag.
Use on the PlayStation 2:
The Playstation 2 is probably the best console to run the device on, despite it not being advertised on the box of its efficiency. There is virtually no lag, and playing Ratchet Gladiator, the quality while recording shows.
The quality of the Kaiser Baas Series 8 Game Recorder is very high while recording, however in game play some consoles will lag on your computer. I suggest if you purchase it, to buy some RCA Splitters and adapters, so you can play the console on your main TV, while recording in near perfect quality.
The price of the recorder in Australia is $79.95 from EB Games, and is not available outside Australia. Which is good to see, because in Australia we are not able to get a hold of a Dazzle, or EasyCap. The price I can handle with the quality that it has given, and the fact that a good quality Dazzle is around the same price, more with shipping, and I have not seen one in real life.
Rating 8/10
Cons: Lag on the PS3 and No HD capabilities.
