just wondering, we've always eaten dinner at separate times and in different rooms but lately since my sister moved out me and my brother have been staying in the kitchen to eat with my mum, probably cos we feel bad.
i'm actually really curious about this, because i've never had proper family meals besides christmas and when i was like... under the age of 10

Normally I eat with my family at the same time, but lately I've been eating meals on my own because I eat at strange times due to my sleeping pattern. :(

Hardly ever because there's no0 room for me at the table, unless i went out of my way to squeeze on!
We eat together when we go outside restaurants and not at home. I always eat my own meal in my room. It's very awkward when we eat together cause' i don't really get along with my father.
We always did until I was like 14
now we never do
I eat dinner in bed yumyum its so warm

yeah, all through my childhood we've eaten meals together. even though i'm older now we're not really allowed to take our dinner elsewhere. just not the done thing in my family. the talk around the table can be so **** sometimes.

Only at Christmas because we're made to by my mum. Even Sunday dinners we all eat it at different times.
when i was little i had to eat at the table, my mom left my dad a year ago and now i'm kinda the mom in my house so i usually cook and eat with my youngest sister but my middle sister and my dad eat their dinner when they get home/when they want it.

Hardly ever, sure Christmas I will however my mum and her partner bore the hell out of me, chuck in my work hours and it's not feasible. Used to eat with family until my mum started to bore me.

Only at Christmas and Easter. Sometimes on Sundays too but most of the time I just eat it in my room.
Only at Christmas and New Years Day. Otherwise no, I would normally eat downstairs in front of the TV or in my room. :)

Only if we have a Sunday dinner or Christmas and sometimes when we have fajitas. My mum tried to get me and my brother to sit at the table together but we just argue and hurt each other (my bond with my brother doesn't exist and haven't had a proper talk for about 5 years) so we just eat separately to save arguments.

sometimes i do, but normally it's when someone is round or at christmas. My mum did make it clear when we move house we have to eat at the table :O

When our mum lived at home, we always did. We had a large kitchen with one of those hubs in the middle that was for dining.
Once she left, my brother had our child minder and she would if we were home for dinner.
Once we got older and we didn't have our minder we would do as we wish, as my dad always worked and my sister is 7 years older. Whenever we went to hers she would have us at the dinner table.
Our homelife changed when my dad's partner moved in.
she would prepare proper dinners but she moved in around the time my brother and myself started having a proper adult life, so ever since then we've always had our dinners prepared but would eat seperately. For instance for a long time when I worked I'd get home at 11pm.
Now we're in our twenties, we all work.
We eat together in the living area if possible but otherwise in our rooms/just myself with someone etc.
I moved out this month so now I just eat at my own dining table :)?
When I return home we always eat together and always will do (I assume) for sunday's or christmas, of course new year (new year seems to be more important for scottish people?) and birthdays.

never have done except on xmas no need plus my dad eats later than us and we like to watch tv whilst eating
90% of the time yes :P
This, I normally eat with the fam apart from when I've been out with mates etc then I usually eat it in my room
On Sundays & special occasions... Yes
we used to eat together but haven't for years because we don't all like the same food. My dad usually makes his own dinner when he gets home from work I usually eat with my mum and sis in living room lmao. We eat together at table for special occasions.

I'm actually quite surprised by the amount of people who don't eat together at the dinner table. I thought it was commonplace!
My answer is yes, every night.. never fail. If we're in the house then we sit at the dinner table. :P

I wish I could say I was surprised. But I am not at all.
It is a shame, but British families are quite poor in general when it comes to doing just about anything as a family.

I have tea on the dining table in the kitchen these days, can't stand the sound of the TV or watching The Simpsons for the upteenth time... plus its much better than eating while slouched on a couch.

we have this problem too, vegetarians, meat lovers and then picky eaters....
but since the veggie is gone, we mainly eat the same.
i'm surprised by the people who eat in their room... i couldn't stand that
i always eat in the kitchen, just we all ate at separate times

it's varied really..
when i lived at home i'd mostly eat in my room, or in the sitting room with my mum and stepdad, but the dining table only got used at christmas and new year.
now that i live with my girlfriend we generally just eat on the sofas, but used the table at first. but when we go up to her mum's for dinner we always sit around the table, but that's because the kitchen is where you go into the house so when people go there they just chill in there
