Hey,
Just before you get the wrong impression, this is only for business-purposes.
So the .xxx domains are to be released soon.
I have found one that's available, its a short (v.popular), 8-letter, adult-based word. I can't tell you for obvious reasons.
It's possible that this domain will be worth a hell of a lot, but I'm not sure.
It costs 79.99 to register it for a year, and if it isn't worth a lot I'm out of pocket.
What do you guys think?
Would love to know what the word could be :P
£80 is one hell a lot of money to risk to see if you can sell it in the future, I personally wouldn't bother, if no one is interested then you will be down lots!
Jack!

I would go for it tbh

It's not a body part if that's what you're thinking!
To put it in perspective, the .com version at the moment is stated to be worth around $23,000
Hmm...

If you want to earn very good money, then it must have very good content and the content has to be fixed to the domain name. If the website isn't related to the domain name, users won't be coming back. If the content is brilliant, then you have to SEO it very well, because most website owners look at the page rank, don't go via the black hat system, go through the legit way. Otherwise you will be blacklisted on search engines.
Also advertise, make sure you're advertising it and making money from it, and always update the website. Another key thing, is to keep the website running for a minimum of year if you want good cash, then when it has reached your target, then sell it. Value it, keep everything into detail and make sure you'll leave with a good profit.
I can't see .xxx domains taking off, only for adult websites

I'll be purchasing this domain to sell on as soon as they are released.

It will be an adult-based domain.
These are the stats for the ".com" version of what I'm considering,
Valuation: $23,000
Frequency: 8,900,000
Searches: 74'000
Traffic: 154'000
---------- Post added 30-08-2011 at 10:33 PM ----------
Now I've found another that's available.
.com stats
Valuation: $139,000
Frequency: 100'000'000
Searches: 300'000
Traffic: 2'800'000
Surely this is too good to be true...

It's not worth if if you're going to purchase and sell it straightaway, you will make a lose. Especially if you don't develop it.

Not really.
The idea is that because the word (it's a single, VERY popular word), most (if not all) adult-entertainment companies will want to purchase it. This gives me leverage and the ability to negotiate a price.
It still seems too good to be true, so I'm going to make a decision at the end of this week. It would be silly of me to decide tonight!

Hmm, I've found another one.
At the end of the day, it's eighty pounds. I'm sure we've all wasted more than that on a night out!
Considering that this .com version is worth $7 million, and makes $2500 a day in ads, I think that it's a risk worth taking.
If it fails, it's eighty pounds down the drain. But if it works...

Honestly don't think it will, and if it does - someone will probably beat you to it.
And those ad websites, are always wrong.
As far as I know, adult websites have had access to the domain registration for some time. Just saying
Maatt.

I'll give you an example of one. (Moderator I'll understand if you have to remove the word, although I've used an *)
*REMOVED*
Just look at these stats,
Daily intake (ads): £145
Page rank: 4
Page views p/d: 157'949
Alexa: 9'025
Worth: £61'000
Obviously I don't aim to receive those results, but that's a very desirable domain in the adult industry.
My thinking is that either the .com owner doesn't want their potential domain to be sat on or used to re-direct people to a competitor. So they (or others) will want to purchase it.
I'll advertise whatever domain I purchase on sedo.com as well as contacting the .com site owner.

Yeah if they are trademarked. Single words that are in the dictionary, such as "women" for example, can be registered by anyone.
And yes, there are popular words available for selection. Not as popular as "women" though.

It depends. It can work it might not.
If its a good name then sure.
I've seen people however try to sell names that aren't really that popular, the site that used it wasn't either but the owner still expects people to pay massive sums.

If it's the word I think it is, then chances are it'll be desirable when registrations open up. It might be reserved so far though, so you'll not want to raise your hopes until general registration.
And for god's sake, don't shake the hand of the person who wants to buy this.

LOL at the last bit :D
But yeah if it is the eight letter word some of us think it is, I highly doubt you are the only one who wants it.

Your domain will probably be eaten by an adult company, they get first pick, then everyone does.

Only trademarks, and the domains are now open to the general public.
By the way, I've decided not to go for it so I guess I can tell you what the domain was.
It was playgirl

It depends on how much money you have to spare. If money isn't an issue then sure why not, however I don't think .xxx domains will ever be very popular, even for adult sites.
afaik Playgirl is a magazine full of men. Jus' sayin'

The time set aside for trademarks to register their brands has passed, now they are available to the general public to register.
