I didn't download software Windows but I believe that it is Pirated , I accidently updated the Genuine Windows Notification and sadly it had to reboot my PC , now it say its Pirated and my background has gone black , I didn't notice that somethings have gone limited and I'm abit worried. How can you undo that and I'm getting worried soon now.

Assuming that you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7. Start Menu > Right click "Computer" > Properties > At the bottom it says "Windows Activation" and should have a link saying activate windows blah blah blah.

That is if you have a legit version.

You use a Windows 2000 XP, what? So you use Windows XP with a green start button and a blue task bar, yeah?

Windows XP:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows

Also on your computer case, do you have a sticker anywhere saying Microsoft Windows XP or whatever your operating system is with a product key? Looks a bit like this but can look different:

Depends where you got your Windows 7 from. Do you not have the sticker on the side of your computer case either? Or on the bottom of the laptop.

I'm going to assume it's a dodgy copy and therefore it won't work correctly. You could always ask your Dad about it since he is the one who installed it for you. :P

My installation of Windows 7 on my media PC occasionally pops up with a genuine notice like this. It never threatens to lock me out of my computer. It's harmless it seems but would be nice to get rid of the popup.

Activate it properly then. Not difficult.

You complain when your installation is actually illegal, facepalm.

Yes. I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on a license for it, I don't have that kind of money right now :P

Shouldn't complain when you have actually bought the operating system, the genuine notification are there for a reason.

I believe I bought my operating system from Ebuyer.com before it was released. I don't complain about an activation system because I didn't buy it.. Oh and you could of saved yourself some money back in the day due to you being a student.

This counts as complaining?

And I couldn't get it for the student price - only University students can do that and even then it's only certain Universities and certain course students of those certain Universities. It would cost me over $100 to get a W7 license and there's no way I'd even spend that much money on it!

It's dirt cheap and worth the money, or was cheap in the UK a few months ago (just buy the upgrade version, the full version is never needed) :P Besides, ahven't you bought Macs? It's probably where your budget went :P

Yeah the upgrade price was really cheap in a Christmas sale here awhile ago, $100 or $150 or something and I bought one of those then and it's now long gone and used elsewhere. Sadly I needed a full Windows license for this laptop though:

and at $230 for just Home Premium it just wasn't an option :P

slmgr -rearm

into the command prompt might get rid of it for a month, works three times.

(I used to use W7 on my old desktop for 120 Days then reinstall, mostly because I was too lazy to get the cash out of my savings account)

Can't you just use the Upgrade version? I had to install Windows 7 on an old Vista machine I wiped, and all you do is install the upgrade version, tell it not to verify, and then install the upgrade version again and for some unknown reason it assumes you're upgrading Windows 7 rather than cheating the system, so it goes through without complaining about how the "Upgrade version isn't a full version, please buy the correct one blah blah". It's what I've done quite a few times :P
