I have 2 older brothers and a step-sister who is 18. My brothers and I were born in Canada so we came back here for university. My brothers went to the same university for the last 2 years, last year I went to a different one but I transfered to their university this year because I hated my old one. We have a step-sister who is starting her first year and decided to come with us to university.
My mom, my step-dad and Ashley's mom (step-sisters mom) drove up to to Canada to drop us off. It was weird because we had to take 4 different cars because Joe (moms's fiance) and Ashleys mom (Joan) don't really talk so it would be really awkward if they travelled together. ANYWAY, so we landed at the university the day before registration date and stayed at the same hotel. It was all good, my dad met us there (was great to see him). So we all went out for dinner and we all got along great, except we all got reallllllllly drunk. The next day we were all hung-over as **** and went to registration. It was really weird because it was like my mom, my dad and their 3 kids and Joe and Joan and their daughter behind people who my parents went to school with and lived down the street from growing up. Anyway, it was like hi how are you your children are getting old then they asked the question and it was left for my parents to explain.. we aren't together anymore this is my fiance this is his ex-wife this is their kid... and so on.. So we're in the line and my mom is feeling awkward as **** so she's like smoking a cigarette RIGHT NOW, which lead to all of us smoking a cigarette... and the ******* ***** behind us is who is from Ontario is like omg who lets their children smoke (JUST GOIN OFF) and we were just like WHAT EVER
So we register and take Ashley to her new residence and we're unloading her stuff and we meet some really cool parents (who we have to explain our family situation to again) and they were like that's cool whatever they were like cool about it. So everything is cool my brothers and I get moved into the new house, my dad peaces with my car and leaves his, Joan says her goodbyes and peaces and Joe and my mom peace so it's just the 4 of us left.
It really became apparent to me. I don't have a conventional family, and people realize it. I figured people would have a mom or a dad or both drop them off at university, who the **** cares if their step-mom or step-dad drops them off? I am proud of my family.
I always knew people with broken families but who knew having a complete-ish one would cause such a situation?
