Dual Booting

Hey :)

I have Windows 8 Developers installed, but would like to still have Windows 7 as some of my programs do not work with Windows 8 at the moment.

So I am planning on installing Windows 7 on a separate hard drive (maybe even an SSD?), make it easy to use both OS's still.

Would it be a better idea to just create a new partition?

Doesn't really make much of a different afaik

Only difference is instead of selecting an OS at boot, you need to change the boot sequence for whichever HDD you wish to boot from.

If you have your external hdd connected at all times, I would personally install the Windows 8 on that and out Windows 7 onto your computers main hard drive.

If I were you I'd have put Windows 7 on your internal hard drive and Windows 8 on your external. After all Windows 8 is only out for developers and bug testing at the moment and I think microsoft would have set an expiry date for it.

If you do change anything remember to have your main OS which you're having on your internal hard drive installed first, because that will be where the boot data is saved. (If you're not sure then have the external unplugged while you install the first OS).
