ok there's this poll on facebook with this question, and it made me laugh cos i spend half my english lessons discussing this
i like all three, but for me star wars edges it
we are talking about the films only here
don't bring the books or games or anything else related to the franchise into it

The original Star Wars trilogy trumps Lord of the Rings for a variety of reasons, but both are *way* superior to Harry Potter. In a completely different class.

Lord of the rings comes no where near either of them for me, I find it the worst and drawn out, only appealing to people who like walks through the lake district.

Harry Potter tops it for me, all though the books have more emotion and more facts.

Star wars is good I enjoy watching the movies, but it's far to nerdy & could pretty much be written by anyone, the only reason things like that a successful and stand alone is because you can only be crazy once and get away with it.

The Lord of the Rings, no frickin' doubt about it. The other two don't come close.

why are the star wars prequels given such bad press?
i do prefer the original trilogy for obvious reasons, but the prequels are still amazing films
maybe it's because the first star wars film i saw was attack of the clones at the cinema, but i think even the prequels still outdo lotr and harry potter

I'd say Harry Potter. Lord of The Rings was OK. It's a bit too complicated and I don't like Star Wars.

Star wars is definitely epic, it was fantastically done and for its day it was made AMAZING. Like obviously effort was put into it, not these days where the films are simple to do special effects etc. There is no effort or passion. The fact NOONE saw Darth Vader being Lukes father coming was AMAZING and then the prequels telling you how that came to be was a bloody fantastic idea by George Lucas.

Lord of the rings for me was a bit of a drawn out story as someone already said, I'm not a fan of politics/drawn out stories which is why I did not enjoy the prequels to star wars as much, they were still fantastic.

Harry Potter was also amazing <3 But definitely nowhere near as awesome as Star Wars.

To be honest, Harry Potter can't be compared to either SW or LOtR, it's an entirely different fantasy universe.

SW and LOtR can be compared but not with HP lol.

SW ftw.

Lord of the rings for me. Even though hp films are enjoyable to watch, they are more than crap and I don't think they should even be in a poll with star wars and lotr (H)

last night when it was like sw 3 lotr 3 and hp 0 i was surprised
but then i remembered most of the people that would vote harry potter would've been in bed at that time
and no surprise that harry is making a comeback
i agree that lotr and sw are probably more easily comparible because they're both in entirely fictional worlds, but i chose those 3 because they were on the facebook poll (with twilight l o l) and they're probably the most successful franchises

there also seems to be a trend running between the older members (especially the boys) and star wars, with more of the younger (and often female) members opting for harry potter
lotr seems to be accepted among all ages and genders

Tricky one. I do love them all for their own reasons.

Star wars is good, but something makes me think Lord of the Rings, which has a bit more possibly substance.

I haven't seen lord of the rings in ages so will have to watch it but finding it hard to vote at the moment. Like I said I do think Lord of the Rings has a grander feel. It's got something original to it.

harry potter is a big part of my childhood but the films are slightly hit and miss. Apart from the last half hour or so of RotK, lord of the rings is better. their big fight scenes are so good, shame last deathly hallows film couldn't take a leaf out of their book!

Star Wars > LoTR > Harry Potter.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong I like all of them, though Star Wars the original series is hard to beat. Plus now the 'universe' and back stories behind it, the expansion of all the extra content, Star wars has got SO much history now.

Had it been Star TREK you'd have my answer, but since it isn't I'm going to go with Harry Potter. Can't get enough of my Harry Potter.

Star Trek> All

Harry Potter>Star Wars> Lord of the Rings
