Teenagers my age and others are very familiar with energy drinks, especially around these meal times; Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner etc.
I've seen many teenagers mostly in year 11 drinking them so you can revise or as it says on the can "Better Concentration" within exams etc, but in fact you cause many many problems.
Many of times I've drunk at least 5-6 energy drinks a night to keep awake all night long.
You may think there's only one side effect to energy drinks which is giving you a sugar rush but in fact you cause many problems if you drink them daily; could suffer from dehydration is a very real probability, damage to small blood vessels, damage to vision, insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, seizures, fainting, and in extreme cases heart attack and death There have already been over a hundred kids and adults who have died from energy drinks.
My sisters friend drank a numerous amount of energy drinks each day during her exams and apparently her heart beat, beat once then missed one. The caffeine content of energy drinks can be the equivalent as 14 Coca-cola cans. These can drinks can be extremely addictive.
So why put yourself at risks such as these. Revert back to the natural way to get energy, SLEEPING.
I think that occasionally they're fine, but I hardly ever drink them.

We get Monster cans for like, 65p at work so when you're on a 10-16 hour shift people just drink them like whaaat.

They also give u the squirts
i go through 3 or 4 energy drinks a day (the cheap 35p ones) and i'm fine
go take your scare tactics somewhere else
and if you're going to try and use semi colons and good grammar, at least read it through at the end
energy drinks are fine unless you have something wrong with you in the first place
for me, (a person with low blood sugar levels) energy drinks are perfect, and they taste nice too
i love energy drinks, the filthier the better ahahah

I only occasionally drink them, and I think that as long as you don't go overboard with drinking them (i.e more than ~2 everyday) then you should be fine? :S

Don't really like them myself and I don't understand why people risk their health to stay up all night for no good reason fuelled by these drinks. :P
Don't see a problem if they're only occasional though, rather than part of a dietary choice.
I drink them quite regular and never had any problems, Monday i drink about 4-5 monster, Weds / fri / sat i have about 7 cans a day. I work in the day then im on night shifts till 5am. I can still sleep when i get home though.
I love energy drinks but I don't go ott on them. Although I don't think the caffeine has much effect on me anymore lmao. I don't need to drink them to stay up late because I do it all the time anyway! sleep is all well and good but sometimes there isn't enough hours in the day so they come in handy :}

I know of someone very healthy who was very near to having a heart attack after drinking one Red Bull a day for a year.

hahaha can't believe what i'm reading, maybe you should do your own research. everything that tastes good is bad for you & energy drinks are no exception. more than 2 energy drinks is especially bad but you know i'm not gonna complain for you to stop cause anyone with common sense would
i don't drink energy drinks, hate the feeling on my teeth afterwards and it literally feels like drinking gas, i feel all bloated too:S & they've never made me stay more awake

wow really are you that dumb?
first of all, taste is arbitrary so you can't define something as tasting good or bad because it will vary from person to person
although if we were to use your perfect world where everyone tasted everything the same, would you say fruit tastes nice? most fruit tastes nice to me... oh does this make fruit bad for me?

I think it was a generalisation rather than literal, although it is to be expected that you'd look for a flaw since you are all on the defensive. I'd hardly say many people say water tastes 'good' despite it being one of the only drinks beneficial for you in any quantity over a litre.
I don't see any problem with energy drinks in moderation, however people who drink them should remember a few things:
- Regular consumption will make you feel fatigued, as in: you'll have a buzz and feel energetic but your bones and joints will feel overused and un-rested. And when the caffeine wears off you'll just feel even more tired. If you're drinking for the "awaked-ness", don't, it's counter-productive.
- It's not a long-term substitute for sleep, it just causes you to use up your energy faster, it doesn't give you more.
And no matter what you do do not drink sugar-free ones, those are actually extremely dangerous on a regular basis as it causes you to use up sugar in your blood faster than fat can be converted back into sugar, worsened by the fact that sugar substitutes tend to cause you to produce insulin which starts converting sugar in your blood into fat to make way for the non-existent sugar.

i do have one every now and again just for something different but i find them so unpure and they're just basically all chemicals and i don't like the idea of putting that kinda stuff into my body, but one every month or so can't be bad (especially in vodka ;))

They ain't as bad as people make out, you have to drink a hell of a lot over a long period of time (talking like years) to cause damage.
Although caffeine has proven worse long term effects then THC for all those anti drugs people who drink energy drinks. :)
I drink one or two a day whilst at work, always have atleast one (breakfast lol). Sometimes I will drink a couple of cans of Monster over the weekend, but that is if I'm going to see mates or something, as I need to travel for a minimum of an hour to see them.

I used to drink a big bottle of Boost regularly, 3/4 times a week but since I got quite ill (Couldn't leave the house it was that bad) from them I have cut down a lot, and the dentist told me to as well.
I had 2 cans of Monster yesterday and woke up at 5:30am with a really bad tummy.
They also give u the squirts

I rarely drink energy drinks. But, I think they're ok if you drink them in minimal amount.

I tried an energy drink yesterday, and I really really don't see why people think they're so good.
First off even though it was advertised as multi fruit flavour, it tasted disgusting.
The drink has colouring in it. I don't know why they'd want to put colouring in a drink that's in a can where you can't even see the liquid in the first place. I poured it out into my empty water bottle to see what colour it was, it looked like piss.
I didn't really feel a boost from it, however the next day i'd never felt so tired in my entire life.
It's like once you've started you'd keep needing them just to maintain a normal level of energy, just don't ever drink them and you'll be fine.

It's more of a person-to-person basis on the adverse effects of energy drinks/caffeine. I have colleagues in the Natural Science department whose diet consists of coffee/energy drinks and cigarettes. They're as healthy as ever to me--though, it doesn't constitute that they'll be healthy in the next years.
As for me, I stay away from caffeine. I have my own ways of avoiding sleep and such, cause' quite frankly, energy drinks/coffee work the opposite for me.
I reckon you guys haven't heard of four loko?

As for everyone who says they are ok now and drink 5 per day, we'll see how you are in 20 years time.
All in moderation, I think drinking them is fine if you control how many you consume within a certain amount of time.

I had a monster thing a few months back when I was doing an 18 hour shift at work and was there during the night. I didn't think it tasted very nice, but I was quite surprised at how well it worked. It did seem to give me a boost which was needed. as someone else said though, I did feel a lot worse the next day and think I sort of crashed I guess. I don't think I would buy one again, only in extreme circumstances, since there are other ways of staying awake I guess.
I used to drink a few Red Bulls every day but they've got so much sugar and caffeine. Was slowing down my muscle building too so I stopped. If you want 'energy' just stay natural and drink coffee..
When you drink the energy drinks it's just a quick fix, shortly after you feel like **** and you crash out.

I'm not a fan of energy drinks as far as I can remember I don't even think I have had one this year.

I hate energy drinks, most of them taste vile imo and it would be rare for me to have one.
I get either two cans of Redbull OR one can of Monster at the shell garage on the way to work. In all honesty, I buy it for the taste rather than the 'boost' - if they made a 'it's the same flavour but hasn't got all of this in it' variety I'd be quite happy. Only other time I drink it is say if I'm on a long drive or what not.
Also, looking on a positive note - many energy drinks contain levels of Taurine, which is also found in chicken, lamb, beef etc - which is actually good for the retinas.

You have made me want to play Theme Hsopital - The Squits sound near enough like Squirts to me.
Anyway, I drink energy drinks if we have them in the house not that often I'd say I drink Lucozade more than others like emerge etc.

OMG..Theme hospital! I haven't played that in years.
Also, I drink energy drinks in the morning if we have them, gets you going for the day. But yeah, most are obviously not that good for you though xL
I do love energy drinks, I burn the sugar off though really.

You can replace energy drink with anything really, the most obvious being alchol.
A friend of mine used to always just eat fruit and would have a go at me if I had something that wasn't to him healthy. The key important thing that he didn't realise at the time is too much of anything is bad. You need a balanced diet. If I just had apples all the time and nothing else I wouldn't be healthy.
I had a can of Red Bull last night while I was working on some stuff, paperwork etc. While I did my degree, I'd also get a few cans of monster, usually 2 and finish what I had left the night before (often that meant doing all the work in one night ha).
Obviously they aren't healthy, but nothing really is. As long as you have them every so often - if you have 5-6 a night like the original poster mentioned then yeah it's going to effect you in the long run.
Abbie.
