BRITAIN is set for a heatwave which could see temperatures as high as 81° F (27° C).

The prediction for next week follows the coldest summer since 1993.

Forecaster Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, said: "Don't pack away the barbecue just yet — the burst of warmth will see out September and bring in October."

An area of high pressure is due to move in after Sunday and stay anchored over the country for the week.

It will see temperatures climb from 68°F (20°C) in the South on Monday — and they may hit 81°F (27°C) next weekend.

In the North it is forecast to hit 73°F (23°C). The average for September is 61°F (16°C).
And the Met Office said next weekend's first days of October were expected to be the hottest since 1985. That saw the month's hottest temperature yet recorded — the 85°F (29.4°C) at March, Cambs, on October 1.

It's true, I read weather charts a lot and was telling my friends about this about 7 days ago.

We had a bad summer? I found it quite hot here :S Not fussed about the heatwave, I gave up with relating weather and seasons, they're all mucked up and spontaneous :P

I think this will cause more thunderstorms than heatwave, we had a massive one today because it was so hot and then started raining.

Apart from the far north-west of Scotland and the far north-west of Ireland, the entire of the UK will be bone dry for at least the next 7 days, I can assure you! :) Ironic that my forecast for the next five days is the most impressive of the year in terms of heat and sunshine and we're going into October. Incredible!

As for London, I expect you'll be breaking some temperature records over the next 5-7 days!

I can assure you! I'll quote this in 5 days time! I've been looking for and hoping for some sort of thundery breakdown at the end of this hot spell, but I have yet to see any signs of this happening. It looks like all of England, Wales and parts of southern Scotland will hold onto the heat until Monday at least. After that, another high that's currently out over the Atlantic looks likely to push the continental high further East as it positions itself over us. Whilst it would remain settled, it would feel much fresher next week though not cold by any means.

Was only forecast 23C but managed just under 27C today. Hottest day here since the heatwave of late May 2010. To say we are going into October, this is remarkable heat. Forecasters predict London could hit 30C this week which would mean that the all-time temperature record for October would be beaten :O

All the necessary ingredients are there for a massive 30C somewhere on Saturday. It would be the first time 30C has been achieved in October in the United Kingdom, ever. Pretty remarkable. I'm making the most of the next few days!

I'm personally loving it and if you're sweating too much THEN JUST WEAR LESS CLOTHES
or pursue colder environments

I'm loving it! It's great because it's few and far between. We don't get it often so whilst it's here, enjoy it! The same goes for snow!

The problem is sitting in a boiling hot room with no "openable" windows.

I am fine with hot weather, just not muggy hot weather lol

I guess being fairly fortunate I don't appreciate hot weather here :P Love snow though, something I don't get in other countries haha

Should be grateful for what I get though.
