Personally my phone is useless to me without jailbreak, so I'll be excitedly awaiting an untethered jailbreak before I update iPad and iPhone to iOS 5 :P

I keep getting this message:

'The iPad "name" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3200).'

My iTunes told me it was unable to restore so I took off the passcode from my iPad and it worked

apparently it's to do with apple servers cos loads of people are getting it

Mathew

The iPad cannot be restored at this time because the iPad software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

It took three hours for it to tell me that!

Looking on Twitter, seems I was the only one who got a nice smooth upgrade in! It took me over 2 hours to get it all upgraded (download took forever) but it's all working fine for me. And it's a great upgrade, much needed.

right this'll be a double post, but i have a bit of a question: the new imessage features, especially the see when the other person is typing thing (like bbm) is that just ios to ios? and how do you know if the recipient is using an iphone. i don't really quiz my friends on which phone they're using so idk seems a bit pointless if it's not like a thing where you add yr iphone contacts seperately.
like the notifications drop down thing though, looks snazzy.

Yes, it's just iOS, and you do have to quiz them on what phone they use :P

Can I get iOS5 on my 4th gen ipod?

iOS 5 is compatible with iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S (obviously). As well as iPad's 1, 2 and iPod Touch 3rd and 4th Generations.

iMessage is pretty cool 'spose, but I've had the GM so haven't bothered to upgrade yet.
It's pretty useful that it switches to iMessage rather than SMS if it knows the other user is using an iPhone with iMessage :)

I'd like to know why you can't use it on a iPhone 4 - curious why it only works on the 4S.

I'm curious too, surely it isn't some mini robot built into the 4s or something

Tim Cook "Hmm, we have very few features for the iPhone 4s since Steve is on his sick leave, SOLUTIONS MEN"
Engineer 1 "If we just put some features we're keeping for the next version into this one.."
Tim Cook "I'm looking for realistic solutions, no need to innovate when we dominate the market"
Engineer 2 "If only there was a way to charge iPhone users to send postcards, I know! We can make an App for that"
Tim Cook "That's more like it, keep them rolling!"
Engineer 1 "We could make some iOS5 features just for the 4s"
Tim Cook "That's a terrible idea, how about we make Siri 4s exclusive"
Engineer 2 "Inspirational!"
Engineer 1 "But.."
Tim Cook "You're fired.."

Im still flabbergasted that people are discussing the lack of features when it has a muchly improved processor to be truthful, but funny play nonetheless :P

Hardware wise, the iPhone 4 could easily cope with Siri.

All I know is that on the GM, I'm missing Find My Friends so not sure. I'll probably upgrade tonight.

You have to download it from the App Store, it's not a pre-installed App.

Was just wondering what versions of iPod Touch iMessage worked on? I am buying a 4G soon but my friends only on a 2G.
Only 3G and 4G, so your friends will not be able to use it on their 2G.

how do i even use imessage?
Well on my iPad it's a separate app so it's quite easy to use, I just put their email in, but on an iPhone I'm not sure as the apps are combined, but I think it's supposed to automatically detect whether the person your msg'ing has iMessages. And if youre on iMessages the colours on screen will be blue; or green on messages.

I'd like to know why you can't use it on a iPhone 4 - curious why it only works on the 4S.
They said the BETA will only be iPhone 4S but hopefully once it's out for BETA, other devices will get it as well. Maybe not the iPhone 4 but hopefully the iPad 2 as it has the same A5 processor :P.

For anyone that wants to hide Newsstand in a folder (only if you don't use it; if you do this, you can't use it unless you later take it out of the folder):

Simply follow these steps:

- Take two apps and go to create a folder
- The second the apps are in the folder and it’s doing the folder creation animation, drag Newsstand into the folder
- As long as you’re quick enough Newsstand will go into the folder!

I completely agree, but that wasn't what I was talking about, so I shall repeat:

Reminders and the notification bars are pretty much the only things I'm enjoying/using. Everything else is nice though.
