View Full Version : RS Section = Crap
Whats happen to the RS section? years ago it used to be so good and now it's just utter **** if you ask me, only around 5 people actully post stuff here now. but it always says like 20+ people are viewing the section?
We need to do something to get people back here, any ideas?
Thread moved by Slowpoke (Forum Moderator) from Games section as it's more suited here. :)

The whole forum is dying.

It is a shame but the gaming section as a whole has been fairly quiet in recent months. Hopefully it can pick up again soon though!

It's a very big shame the RuneScape forums aren't as popular as they once were. One problem we have is that we seldomly hear suggestions with regards to improving the RuneScape section of the forums (for the most part they've remained the same for the past years). It would be nice to implement any RuneScape features into the forum, or, it would be nice to hear from you folks how you'd think we could promote the section as a whole.

I'm not necessarily sure that's a true statement. For the past few weeks specifically, I've been observing the forum statistics of a select few Habbo forums. By a fair margin HabboxForum still has more activity than any other English forum I've looked at.

It isn't that other forums are surpassing HxF, Dave.
The problem lies with the so-called supports of their fansites, Habbo. Less people generally use fansites - especially now they get so little recognition.
Maybe we should hold some events? on RS and try get players to the section.
An RS channel perhaps, with people posting guides + pking vids, all that malarky.
With a direct link to the forum aswell, would increase the RS userbase by a few percent.

If you wish to help set something like that up and have some information about how to go about that then contact me via PM and we can discuss it! That's the same for everyone if you have ny suggestions then contact me or you can make a thread in the feedback forum and it's something that we will be willing to look into. :p

I remember when people from the RS section would voice their opinions and suggestions only to be ignored or told no "this is a habbo forum".
Habbox might have more traffic than other UK Habbo fansites, but that doesn't change the fact that it's not as popular as it once was - in any section.
TBH, I don't think you need to change anything about the RS section. Not much point as there aren't enough active users any more... And let's face it, you're not going to attract more users from outside Habbox (unless they play Habbo too).
I think a lot of people grew up with Habbox and have just moved on from Habbo and such. I mean you still get people who have formed close friendship groups that post and people that check back to see what's going on (I fall into the last category).

When I was running Competitions, I'd suggested the idea of having a Runescape forum Competitions / Events section, and had drafted up basic templates for these to go on. There were a few users who were willing to donate large amounts to the effort, and two Comps staff who had said they were willing to take on the extra duties it would require. Like you said, the idea was shot down by management because this was a Habbo forum, and all official departments were to focus only on that particular game.
Honestly, I still think it was a bit of a mistake not to make an effort to appeal to all of Habbox's users, as at the time, a large amount of the community had moved from playing Habbo to just RS. Note that the Habbo sections of HxF are still (comparatively) going strong, whereas the sections that have been ignored have all but died.
I do agree that it may be a little late to attempt to change things though. Like you said, we have lost a large amount of our Runescape community, which were probably just people who have moved on with their lives and no longer play. It would be difficult to bring new Runescape players into the fold when there are so many established Runescape fansites already, especially since they have less restrictive rules than Habbox does for this section. However, I think it might encourage current Habbo players who are just starting RS or who play both to be more active in these forums if there was a little more to do.
There's no reason not to try to liven up the section a little bit though, there does seem to still be interest in the forums. When I'm browsing, I usually see a large amount of people viewing the Runescape forums, which leads me to believe that the reason that no one's posting is simply because there's no one starting discussions outside of 'Selling this and that' or 'Look what levels I got today'.

The main popular sections are the trading sections / goals + achievements mainly.
Theres not much to discuss because you can guarantee the discussion was probably made a while ago with the same members answering the question.

Would you like me to move this over to Feedback? It's likely it'll get noticed by more members and by management over there? :)

Moved. I agree with you though buddy, Runescape is a lot busier nowadays and I know a lot of people on here play. I think some of the guys who used to moderate the Runescape sections used to run competitions and they were successful. It'd be great to see the competitions return as it gave the section more of a community feel and definitely made it more active :) You have my support!
It would be great for the section to come back from the dead.
Pk'ing and free trade is back so i dont see whats stopping people. I still say that Pk'ing and free trade being removed didnt help the forum as many quit.

It would indeed. I don't play anymore but Runescape was always a great area of the forum. And if I'm remembering correctly, it was Aiden who was incharge of the comps when he was a moderator? Maybe you could start doing them again Aiden (if you are interested)? :P
The removal of PK'ing and Free Trade definitely did have a negative impact on the forum
I think Aiden is having trouble with the forum, he said on RS.

Quite a few people who are with Virgin Media (me included) are currently having problems accessing certain websites and Habbox is one of them.
In terms of the RS section, we will listen to any of the suggestions that you guys have and we will try and implement them if it's something we have to do. But the sound of RS related competitions sounds great so far.
That's weird im with Virgin and HxF has been normal :(

Ok so i was just in the shower when i got an idea, maybe we could have a giveaway like every 2 weeks? if habbox members have things they dont want, like im going to end up having so much ore and fish and logs and stuff that i wont use, i mean like bulks and stuff. and we could give them away somehow on rs, havent fort of how, maybe drop party? in a secret location and the only way you can find out it by actully coming to the rs section on habbox, i wouldnt mind advertisein on rs around the GE when im there ect ect :)

tbh if we were allowed to talk about private servers etc for rs then me and ste would have something to actually post about again, even though alot of people might find them pointless, they're great fun and also helps improve your pking on real rs, only thing is, everytime 'private servers' get mentioned, the infraction idiot comes out to play.

I'm not going to ask you what else happened in that shower, but giveaways would be an interesting idea. The only problem with that which I see would be collecting sufficient funding in order to have a giveaway or to have them frequently. I remember from several years ago something about a Habbox guild or party on Runescape (sorry if that's not the correct terminology, I've never played). Is that still kicking around? Would something like that be worth investing time into?

The thing is, we've tried all of this before, the clans, giveaways, competitions etc. It's great for a few weeks then the people hosting it just don't bother because the spark for it goes away. It's simply not active because all of the old people that used to lost around the rs section have moved on. Sure some if us are still here And some people pop on from time to time but I think the days of that section are done with. We've had fun there, all made friends etc but it's never going to be like it was.
cant really be bothered reading what everyone has said and someone may have already said this, but this is predominantly a habbo forum, and the runescape section is merely a sub section OF a sub section, so you can't really be too surprised it's dying
i commend you for trying to save it but it's probably not going to make any difference
if you just add all the habbox people on runescape and talk to them on there you wouldn't really even need the forum in the first place
if you want an active runescape 'section' just go to a runescape forum like tip.it or zybez or idk what people use anymore

Might be worth holding a lottery again, Cwb used to hold one and it was relatively popular so its always worth another try if theres enough interest.

The thing is a lottery won't really get new people (which is what is needed).
You just need to hope that, by chance, a habbo member also plays RS and joins here.

It's not just about getting new people, it's making a runes ape community here again my influencing people to post more. Yes there are still a few people that constantly use the runescape forum and some that post there once in a while. For menit's about bringing back the tight open community we once had but with some new faces.

If you check my old posts I used to be in the RS section day in and day out and have one of the best accounts on there. Even back when I was posting which must have been 08/09ish the RS forum was pretty naff on here. People are making out it has gone from being great to awful which isn't the case IMO. Something to liven it up wouldn't go a miss... although I think most people who played it from here quit/stopped using hxf -.-

I think people are talking about 06/07. Which, IMO it was a good community to be part of. IRC channel was always busy, we had lots of events (not organised by habbox but by the users) and way more posts.
I say just let it die tbh.

The whole gaming community has been lacking activeness recently, a lottery for runescape would be fantastic. I could get a Minecraft server up for Habbox or we could promote Habbox on my current Minecraft server to make the MC forum a tiny bit more active. But in general, Habbo fansites are dying after some of these ridiculous updates to Habbo not letting us promote the fansite as much.
