Or that the wrong artists are getting credit?

I'm hearing the same old thing over and over again, something fresh and new needs to come out!

So I want to dedicate this thread for all new music that is GOOD!

Agreed. It's how we are brought up and that's the music we listen to. It's not gonna change me even though you said we lack good music nowadays. Still love my mainstream songs.

there's the good, and the bad for every generation, so there isn't a lack of good music nowadays. you're obviously not listening to the 'right' music - but then musical preferences are subjective, so there technically isn't good/bad music. just a load of music elitists who can sod right off.

I disagree, there is music that is decent and being made right now, just need to broaden your horizons.

there's a group of people from my school on facebook who have a little exclusive group called the 'experiment lab' where they all post obscure music to try and look cool and suckle up to eachother because they're all so individual, and this seems like more or less the same thing
what makes you the decider of what is good music and what is bad music?
music is all down to taste, regardless of the talent involved in the creating process so get our your own **** and let people listen to whatever they want

p.s i just listened to that song... do you know what garage music is l o l?

I agree that it's how we are brought up and that's the music we listen to, although I do think some good new sort music needs to come out tbh!!!

I guess this comes down to your definition of good music. If you feel good music needs to contain crazy guitar riffs, amazing vocals, or a huge orchestra, I can see why you wouldn't enjoy the music charts.

Personally, I class good music as music that invokes a certain emotion. If I want some background noise at work without distracting me, SBTRKT does that. If I want to feel like im in my own little bubble after a few gins whilst playing Habbo, Warpaint does that! And if I want to be happy and feel like a boogie, Rihanna & Katy Perry do that for me :)

I dont even think its a case of the wrong artists getting credit. My favourite band by far is Warpaint and I think they are AMAZING, but they couldn't even sell out to a small crowd in Leeds. The critics say they're good (as in technically good), yet my friends cant listen to them for over a minute.

And the charts have always been this way... My favourite songs as a child were Blue (Eiffel 65) and Mambo No 5 lol.

The top 10 get to where they do, because they invoke certain emotions to more people than the people who arent in the top 10. That makes them good IMO.

Ignoring the fact the the question "What is good music" is entirely irrational, pointless and subjective, I would postulate that the last twenty years really was a disaster when it comes to music.. lady gaga. REALLY?

Pink Floyd
Queen
David Bowie
Rolling Stones
The Who
Bob Dylan
ELO
Clapton
Genesis
Supertramp
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Clash
The Jam
Thin Lizzy
Smashing Pumpkins

Sure we've grown up and listen to whatever we listen to, though I still believe the new songs that are getting released don't have the same effect that the past generations have.

You will always have the 'classics' that you will never forget, though its very hard to remember songs that make a difference these days.

I also think that the music industry is getting flooded now, with a lot more people being able to learn an instrument, record and share, due to the internet and other media.

Times are changing

People can listen to whatever they want. I'm just saying that the 'majority' of what is listened to is getting worse and worse.

And as for garage music, again it's a matter of opinion. Which you stated earlier.

I saw Warpaint when they came to Australia, absolutely amazing.

The music that makes the 'charts' or artists that get signed are just not as worthy any more, sure there are amazing musicians out there but the wrong ones are getting noticed.

I have a hard time listening to anything in a top 10 because its the same 4/4 beat over and over again, though there are those odd occasions when something amazing makes it.

I love a majority of genres, the only thing I can't stand is dance, trance and heavy metal.

You have a false view because you're choosing to remember only good music from the past, there was just as much crap in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s as there is now. You can easily prove this by playing the number one hits from various periods, most of them will be consider down right awful.

And I agree with the crap from the past, Just things are worse now because it feels all recycled and re-used.

Garage Rock would be the genre I was heading for.

Garage music, for me, is anything that would be made and have a 'grungish' sound.

I agree that the song you posted does fit into that genre, though with the more club style sound.

Also there is the International Divide. I'm from Australia so our views could be completely different musically.

I assume most are from the UK?

As for the genres I like, I don't mind a bit of everything.
