View Full Version : Reputation Rankings

Until the latest vBulletin update the members list on the forum enabled you to list members by the amount of reputation they had, which was quite a cool feature. Unfortunately with the new memberlist this no longer works.

There's probably a plugin similar to the recently added "Top Posters" plugin that you could add to do this, if enough people are interested.

Just a suggestion :)

why is it necessary.

why is it necessary.

A lot of users used to find it quite interesting to see where they were in the reputation rankings on Habbox, you have to question the total point in reputation if it's not really going to be shown anywhere - surely the person with the most reputation on the forum should be highlighted somewhere.

I enjoyed watching the top 5 or 6 fluctuate as people changed, however it may just be me - the necessity of an update such as this is down to public opinion.

Personally, I would look at it and I think it would be quite a useful feature :).

We all know it's Neversoft.
I don't think it's needed because to me, it would just give users another way of being elitest. with the community continuously changing the last we need is a hark to the old days of elite forum members, doing as they like whilst the staff are cowering in the corner or up their arse.

This forum shows reputation, there's no need for a league.

I really liked being able to see where everyone ranked in terms of reputation! There was a big discussion about people wanting it back when it was removed (they disabled it because it didn't work with the new vb update.... OR SOMETHING....)! :P

We aren't children? We aren't going to get all upset by the fact that someone has higher reputation than us. I like the idea of the plug-in :)

Posts you work for, most older users didn't work for their reputation.
You'd be lying if you were to say (as an older user - this is for everyone not YOU :P) that all your rep is fair and wasn't pointless. I'll admit my rep from 2006 was mostly all pointless. Then the rep I got was purely for my posting, I don't remove any -reps so I think my rep balances out.

Plus, mines is more fairer than most because I get a **** load of minus rep whenever I post more than often :P.

It's just not needed.

Reputation is how people view you as a character, by definition. People with higher reputation here have it by being strongly contributing members who are (or have been) also popular as a person, which is exactly what reputation ought to be and is certainly not as easy to build up as spamming posts.

Tom your rep is mostly all pointless.
I admit I've probably repped you about three times this year but by majority your posts are just ****.

I will admit as are mine, but you seem to want the popularity like other members did. You're no where near as bad as ryan though. or jake.

I think you completely missed my point. Popularity has everything to do with reputation and so getting repped just for being me would still be an accurate show of my overall reputation. That said, nearly all of my recent reps (as in from the last year or two) have been for making funny posts so I can't be that awful

I would also like to see this brought back.

I'd like to see this. I never knew you could do it on the old version which is quite a shame but if it could be implemented I'd be happy :)

This wasn't actually ordering by reputation points but ordering by reptation power which are gained by a whole range of things, less judge of reputation, more judge of who posts more, I would much rather like to see ordering by points added.

Yes, it was pure reputation - rep power is essentially an entirely different thing which people get confused way too often. Reputation points are "shown" in the green bars but there's only a certain amount of them - a list was always good.

I was certain it was by power, I'm probably wrong though.

The list was ordered by actual reputation amount, not by reputation power.

I think it would be great. I love to be able to search by rep and post count on memberslist.

Definitely by the list, yeah 'cause I used to look at it and be even more nosy and use ACP to check the exact amounts as I was looking to restructure the reputation rank comments such as "Chippiewill is someone to look up to".

You could be on about a different list though, but I don't think there has been a rep power list :)

I liked it ranked in postage numbers.

I don't get why vB removed it, it's something statistical and built-in to the forum system. Knowing the stats of any member, including their reputation, is intrinsic to any forum system so it's bizarre they do not have it in the member list as, previously stated, it's an interesting statistic. Or did whoever runs the forum remove it? Either way, it's daft :P

There's the "Top Posters" page now although that only shows a certain amount, but yes I too liked it when it showed the full list ranked by posts too.

rep doesn't really bother me here or there, but i wouldn't be offended by a top rep list, nor do i think it would cause problem.

*cough* Except when we used to sell it or shotgun it out in comps but really reputation should define the quality of someone's posts not how many friends they have or how often they can be pointlessly repped.

It will be back as soon as I get around to fixing it (it hasn't been removed by vB not sure where that idea has come from). I think it would be interesting to see what rep would be if they were recalculated.

EDIT: Just queried what the forum reports as the top 10 and what the reputation comments report as the top 10 and the number 1 spot is different interestingly.

So you'd agree with changing everyone's rep power to one then?

Just pointing out that if he really wanted that then that's what he should do. It also has the plus side of kicking the elitism out of the forum and making it easier for newer members to stick around.

Well I don't think I am elitist and it would seem that there would be nothing to show for all my years here. Superficial, I know, but true.
