Hello!

UCAS have received my application today and it's being forwarded to my five choices within the next 48 hours.... yay! :)
I've applied for BA English Language at:

University of Leeds (AAB)
Newcastle University (AAB)
Lancaster University (AAA-AAB)
University of Birmingham (AAB)
University of Sussex (AAA-AAB)

My AS grades were AAABC and my predicted grades are A*AAAB.

Now, the waiting game begins..
Anyone else applying to university for 2012 entry? :)

All good universities mate, Lancaster is a cracking Uni to go to, their campus is something special, you went on any open days yet?

I'm going to apply this year but if I don't get the grades I want I'll re-apply next year.

I'm applying for Criminology and Sociology. I still need to decide on a insurance and I need to get my history teacher to change my predicted grade - a C is fairly ridiculous.

My choices are:

Kent (Canterbury) - ABB
Lancaster - ABB
Surrey - ABB/BBB
Cardiff - ABB

Haven't sorted it out yet, not to sure if I want to go and if I do im taking a year out before. So far I only choose Uni of Brighton for Media needing BBB to get in. Predicted BBC but have an a/s and another one coming at the end of this year and therefore should be enough on the UCAS tariff.

Cheers! :D I've been to two Leeds open days; once to look at everything, and then I went back a couple of weeks ago to check out the Studying Abroad and Accommodation. I went up for the Newcastle open day too. Leeds and Newcastle are probably the ones that I'm most interested in, so I really don't know which I'm going to put for my firm! Then again, if I do get an offer from Lancaster then it would be silly to reject it.... oh dear.. decisions! :(

I mentioned Studying Abroad... I've been looking into it at the different universities and I think it's something I'd strongly consider. I could extend my degree by a year at Leeds and spend the 3rd year out in the USA, studying for "BA English Language (International)"... then returning in the 4th year to complete my original degree. I think it would be fantastic both on a personal development level, as well as adding to one's CV.

Sociology, yay! :P
I looked at Surrey, Kent and Cardiff for English (the latter two were on my short-list actually) but turned them down for some reason. I found that most of the places I looked at either did English Literature or just English; I just had to be picky and kept looking for Language! :P

Planning on doing some travelling in the gap year? :)

Good luck! York is a beautiful university and it would have probably been firm / insurance if they did English Language alone rather than English Language & Linguistics. I went to speak to Paul Foulkes (Professor) and Dominic Watt (Senior Lecturer) back in the summer who are currently in the Linguistics department at the University of York. The whole campus is just so green and the lake in the middle makes it so serene! :)

Yeah I loved York, not just the campus but the city too is lovely. Their film facilities are mindblowing as well it's like a film studio lol, I'll be really really upset if I don't get in not gonna lie :(

I see you are applying to Leeds as well, I went to their open day! I loved the city and the campus it was perfect however the course wasn't ideal for me so I was gutted that I didn't like that aspect of it because the rest was fantastic!

Oh of course, York is an amazing place! I remember visiting it quite often when I was younger with my parents... the old buildings, York Minster and the National Railway Museum were always particular favourites of mine </geek>.. :P

oooo nice which open day were you at? I remember going to the one on a Saturday in July, and then the one a couple of weeks ago. :D I'm quite near to Leeds so I visit the city quite a bit.. I've never really thought about it being nice, haha. But yeah, I was quite surprised with how nice the university in particular was.

Wooo, Leeds and Newcastle! :D

I was SO close to applying to Kent and Reading but realised it was a combination with linguistics at Kent and I replaced Reading with Sussex!

I've heard nothing but good things about Durham! :)

I went there once when I was about 8 and once again a few weeks ago for open day! But I'm sure I'll explore those places if I get in haha.

I went to the Saturday one in July too! Although I decided to be completely crazy and get a coach there from London at 11pm at night, get there at 5am and then stay awake all day looking around Leeds and the university, was knackered when I came home that night!

I'd never been there before and just really liked it :) I really wanted to go up north somewhere, I don't like where I live much :( The university was lovely!

Haha, small world! Oh heck that must have been a long day... especially whilst sitting through the talks on Fees & Finance! :P

I haven't looked at any universities down South so I do wonder if they differ; Leeds and Newcastle have loads and loads of fields just outside the main city which may be somewhat of a factor.

kent's english department is nottttttt good haha. well, it's alright but i did an english module last year messy messy messy.

i think i'm applying again to uni this year but i don't know yet, i wanted to find a job. i don't know if a degree in drama is going to improve my chances of getting professional acting work. i don't think it will.

indeed! and trust me it was haha, the fees & finance talks then were so up in the air and pointless as they didn't know what they'd be charging too!

I saw kent, uea and southhampton with my brother when he was applying, and royal holloway and westminster for myself. I can't compare many of them if I'm honest, they're all so different! Each one I'm applying to is massively different from the rest which worries me somewhat lmao! I just want to move away from the South-East :(

Good luck!

Yeah I love York, is the nightlife decent (without sounding like a typical student)

my brother did english at kent and loved it there and got a first, so i wouldn't say it wasn't good :o

sending mine off the first week after half term once my personal statement has been checked through but i've already chosen a mixture of BA film studies/ BA film and television studies/ BA film production at:
university of east anglia - (AAB-ABB)
westminster university - (ABB)
university of northumbria - (AAB)
university of southampton - (AAB)
queen mary's university of london (ABB)

predicted AABB so yeah hopefully if my personal statement is good i'll get offers from the all, although i'm mainly looking at the top two...

I'm seeing alot of Lancaster and a few Sussex Uni apps. Both were my top 2 uni's and you wouldn't regret going to wither. I ended up with Sussex and it truley is a great place with the most amazing people and town :)
