View Full Version : tagging users in posts?

a feature i've seen on a fair few other forums is the ability to tag other users in yr posts twitter/facebook style. so for example if i put @Publicised then i would get a notification saying i had been tagged in so and so post.

i think it's a nice little feature, and i think it would be used quite often? i often see in posts people saying "oh you should ask ____ they'd know about this" especially in query threads (technology/habbo/even feedback).

i don't think it's that much of an advanced feature? i dunno, i just thought i'd see if other people liked the idea ha!

yea, i've also seen it on other forums i use and find it useful. one thing that would be a must though if it was added would be the option to disable notifications because the more popular people on here will constantly be tagged and it'll be annoying as hell for them. for me.. dont care because nobody would ever tag me. gr8 idea bethay xo

No, it actually is REALLY helpful! I'd say it's better than the BLINGBLING QUOTED YOU thing.

I just want to say this before I go on about tagging users:

Habbox is Habbox, we aren't ClubHabbo/ForumLol and they may have these features or better systems in place in your opinion but that doesn't mean we will always use them and put them into HabboxForum. Just saying this because your recent posts in feedback are like: forumlol this, forumlol that. Not that I have a problem with people giving suggestions on what we can add to the forum.

------------------------------

Anyway back onto the mentions thing:

I was actually thinking about this the other day as I do look at other forums and see what's going on and things. I do like the idea because it's easier to do: @Jordan Fantastic idea etc.

I would expect If we also had an option to disable it for people as well? So if they didn't get like a notification/Private Message/whatever for it then it wouldn't be an issue. As I know some people would love the idea and want it and then others who wouldn't want it to notify them every time they are mentioned.

I was just thinking, last night, that this would be useful! ^_^

Yeah E.g. @Jin would be much easier than having to try quote someone, especially if they haven't posted in the thread. And yeah, it should send them a message ^_^ e.g. *Blank* has tagged you in a post.

Disabling it would be needed, imagine people tagging the same person 1000 times in the spam thread o.o

I think it sounds like an interesting idea and could be useful, but I agree with Matt that there should be an option to disable it.

Is it too complicated to have a bar at the top saying "you have been tagged by xxmattgxx here" instead of a pm?

I'm not sure how it works on the other forums but if it's possible than sure.

I really like this idea and I think it would be useful, although I know constantly having PM's saying someone has tagged you would be annoying!

it would be pretty cool :) :) lolol. . . and then why did habbox get an app. .

HFFM got an app before habbox so techniqually habbox copied their idea???? so we should be aloud to copy this idea aswell lolol :)

Hopeless

I don't think it's copying lool, that's like saying Sky News copied BBC with making a website because BBC made their site first.

in b4 someone tells me sky had theirs first

It is a good idea and something I'd like to see implimented, as far as I know on other forums they have it so that it shows a notification like "You have been mentioned XX times" and once you click it it's a tab on your profile with a list of them. We would have it so that you can disable it if you wish, I'll discuss it with David and see what he says :)

i wanted to say also in my post (but didn't cause i thought i should sell the idea to the main audience first rather than the staff audience) that i would be really useful in staff forums too? could tag users for reports, activity threads, if you need gm to look at the threads. etc. for organisation purposes.

I've always thought about this but never got round to posting about it, alot of other forums use it. But thats not the reason why we should, the reason why we should use this is basically because it's such a good way of notifying others of a post or a thread. Yes the who quoted thing is a really good feature, but if you are wanting to get someones attention to a thread and they haven't already posted in it, who quoted me won't work.

There is a plugin for it and it comes up as notifications i think, you don't get a PM about it. I think it comes up in your notifications as 'You have 2 New Mentions' and then when you click on the mentions button it takes you to a page which lists all the threads and post where you have been tagged.

nobody has even said that we should get it because other places do... people have just said it works well on other forums :S

I've used forums that use @tagging and I found it very useful.

It does sounds like a very good idea and I'm guessing it would work the same way as quoting someone? If so then I'm pretty sure that it will be very useful for people and if it becomes annoying just disable it, simples.

A tagging system without notifying users was implemented a while back: [@]Jin[/@]

Information on this can be found here: http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=667234&p=6743898#post6743898

It could perhaps be more advanced and notify users, but if you just wanted a link to profile tag - that already exists.

Indeed but it seems no one really takes advantage of that but maybe they will if it was advanced more.

Well, I think the reason it's not used is because nobody knows about it - hence it not being mentioned once in this thread until now :P

I use this all the time and it's really useful. I think notifications for it would be good, but it may become abused which would be rather annoying. :(

I suppose we would have to come up with a way to tackle that, well it depends on the actual system behind it and if it's possible to prevent people from abusing it.

It's not about how helpful it is, I was more commenting about how silly it would look imo. I think quotes are a lot neater cos it's a forum so they're often there whereas posts filled with @s just looks weird to me. It's something I could ignore easily so it's nothing major and if the majority want it then go ahead but just giving a different take on it.

I'm not sure if when you say @Inseriousity. that it would still say @Inseriousity and not just [@]Inseriousity[/@] but I agree if it still shows the @ it will come quite un tidy.

If it's the latter then it'd be better but i'm just going by clubhabbo which has @[name] dotted everywhere round the forum (like http://www.clubhabboforum.net/showthread.php?t=370610&page=2 here).

Yeah no **** mate. I'm just saying that the @mention is very good. CH uses it and it doesn't get abused (much?).
Its good because if someone posts for help you can get someone's attention by posting something like "do this this this.. but @whoever will know more".

And also, using another forum "based on habbo" opens your eyes a bit to some improvements. Okay?

I don't need to open my eyes a bit because I actually said the following:

"Not that I have a problem with people giving suggestions on what we can add to the forum."

Meaning I don't mind if people want to suggest improvements! :P

Also, I wasn't the one who brought about people abusing it either, I just replied saying about we could bring something in to tackle that if it became a huge problem.
