So, I've been designing and cutting from my Dell XPS for a while now.. it's having some bad BSOD issues, constantly just shutting off for no reason when I open "Computer" or Documents, or any explorer Window.. blah.

So.. I bit the bullet and bought a 27" iMac..

Configuration Specs:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1333Mz DDR3 SDRAM - 2 x 4GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard
I got an Epson printer with it with AirShare so I can print to it with my iPad and iPhone. I've spent like $5k this year in just Apple products.

It's "Processing" right now, wish it'd ship soon.. I got overnight shipping.. anyways, hope it works good!

Very nice! My dad got one almost exactly the same spec a few months ago and the 27" screen is freakin' beautiful.... although he did stick Windows 7 on it within the first week he had it :P

I've played with the TrackPad though and, to me, it seems pretty pointless.

Yeah I figured so, but for $69 I thought what the heck.

I'm going to throw a copy of Parallels on there and then a copy of this ;) So many perks when you're a mentor to the Air Force Cyber Patriots.

Similar in specs to my 27" iMac. They're lovely machines, I have Lion and Windows 7 running at same time with Vmware - the screen is pure heaven :)

Let us know if the trackpad is of any use to you, I am curious to see if anyone with a trackpad as well as the Magic Mouse thinks having both is worth while.

All that for a Windows computer? It sounds to me like your dad wasted his money :P

What processor and RAM do you have?

What processor and RAM do you have?

Exact same ram configuration and speed, and mines a quad core i5 in lieu of a i7.

How smoothly does it run? I estimate running Photoshop and Illustrator at the same time, handle it?

iMacs are brilliant if you want a powerful all-in-one daily use machine, as I say, the screen is absolutely gorgeous.

+1 for MSDNAA access :8

MSDNAA makes my heart happy.

May I ask how much that was in your currency?

Sounds like an awesome build, looking to get an awesome screen for my pc :P

Similar build to mine, except I went for the SSD and maxed the RAM after I bought it.

Runs like a beast! Wouldn't want anything else

Altogether including tax and overnight shipping it was like $2,725.27, but I also got an Epson AirPrint printer with it for $99.00 (that's in the price too).

For me to buy that build in the UK it would be about $3500 in our currency. And that is why I will only buy an iMac in the US haha

Haha dang! Anyone who's bought a BTO computer from Apple, how long does it usually take to go from "Processing" to "Preparing For Shipment"?

My dad's iMac took about a week to arrive I think. Apple's shipping estimates were a week late.

It says "Ships in 1-3 Business Days" and I got overnight shipping, so who knows.

Apple stuff nearly always ships early, their delivery dates are usually worst case scenario.

My mate just got a Macbook Air and it was 1 - 3 days for him, he got it the day after he ordered it

My MacBook Pro which was BTO was processing for about a day or two, then shipped on the third day :)

That tends to be the case when it's not BTO, but when it is they tend to be rather on the money.

I would love to stick a SSD in mine, but the thought of dissecting it quite frankly horrifies me.

Both my iMac and previous Macbook Pro were BTO and I received both around 4 days early.

The general consensus when it comes to Apple is that they lower your expectations with the delivery dates, maybe you chaps have got unlucky :p

I cant blame you :p I paid a stupid price to have mine included, but I wouldn't want to add one myself if I was in that position.

The overall setup is horrible imo haha. The iMac looks sweet though - just a messy setup :L

You should use that program Dave uses so he can have one keyboard for both PC's?? I like the tech, just doesn't look right altogether :L Also, did you get permission to have that picture of those two girls on there? Otherwise, I think the photo should be removed..

No, but seriously - happy with it? :)

Dentafrice

Very happy, the picture of the two girls.. yes that's perfectly fine and permission is granted as I own the copyright to the photo as that is my printed calendar work.

Haha, the setup isn't supposed to be clean, I plopped it down on my working desk in the middle of my office and it fits in fine and conforms to my workflow.

As far as the one keyboard for both PCs.. I'm happy with two keyboards, my other PC needs a dedicated bluetooth keyboard for our production software on the Windows PC.

I need to bite the bullet and order a new MacBook :| not happy about it

Also, I have the same Dymo label maker, it's probably my favorite piece of technology at work!

Have you checked out Synergy? My computer setup has similar needs where I have two machines next to eachother so you'd assume I used two keyboards and two mice. However with Synergy:

http://synergy-foss.org/

You can control numerous machines with one keyboard and mouse as if they were just external monitors (even though it keeps everything else separate).

Parallels is a virtualisation app to run Windows on a Mac, Synergy is so you can control two physically separate computers with one physical keyboard/mouse.
