View Full Version : Who is the BEST live performer right now?

For me, an artist being able to pull off a great live performance is really important, as it should be. Idk if it's the same for anyone else, but a good performance can also change my opinion of a song (like a music video).

So who do you think is the greatest live performer around AT THE MOMENT? (no dead people please) Feel free to include performers from any genre, and say why you think they are the best, and give video examples to help show why they are so great.

In my opinion, I think Beyonce is the best. Because she has a great stage presence, always has excellent vocals (one of the greatest singers of all time imo) and is probably the best dancer out of all of her peers. Not to mention she can dance AND sing well live at the same time, something which many people just can't do.

A close second would be Lady Gaga, but since I am talking about who is a better natural performer instead of the performances themselves, I have to choose Beyonce as the best. Gaga's performances are more elaborate and she can pull of theatrics better, she plays piano, and she can dance and sing at the same time too, but as a raw talent Beyonce is easily a better performer. But I think Gaga's performances are more interesting to watch.

Examples:

Beyonce:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkqUTY3G13M

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IO1mlF13nI&feature=related (4 key changes... who else)

Gaga:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULZHRL0Oahs&feature=fvsr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHrMflS493I&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWtcRL03FVo (just to show she can perform well with only voice and piano)

Honorable mentions go to P!nk and Axl Rose (not as good as he was in the 80s/90s) EDIT: Forgot to include Muse as well.

So, who do you pick and why?

In my opinion, the video of Beyoncé's 2011 Love on Top performance has been one of the best mainstream performances of the year, if not the century. But I'm a pushover for Beyoncé. Even during pregnancy, she can pull off things like that, and recent music videos like Countdown, Party, and less enthusiastic, Love on Top.
Adele is faultless live, her recorded songs are her live songs. No editing required. She even sung Make You Feel My Love during the filming, rather than going into the studio.
And Michael Jackson, much the same. Though I dont like his music, it lacks the errors common in current artists.

Tbh I think I'd fall asleep if I went to see Adele live. Also, I agree Beyonce's performance of Love on Top is one of the best of the year, but century? lololol

Excellent question and one I've had to think about. As much as I hate her and can't stand her, I guess Gaga is a fantastic live performer, I think the fact that she's a pianist just adds to this image of her really, not to mention that her voice is incredible. I don't have much to say on this as you can tell (:P), however I just think as a live performer she's terrific as she engages the audience so well.
I have plenty of performers who are great live too, but as a couple of these have been mentioned already (Muse ) and this is a thread about the best live performer, I will just leave it at that.

Well, 11 years. And it was a bloody good performance. If I ever go to a concert, she's bumped to 3rd on my list, used to be 7th before xD
After Mariah Carey and Charice ofc, then Beyoncé.
Adele can be rather boring, but if you get a slightly more emotional song, it's really quite interesting. My friend went to go see her a few months back or something, she loved it.

Lol yeah it was good but the best performance of the past 11 years ... urm :P

And yeah I guess it is down to opinion with Adele. I would get so bored of standing there listening to her sing ballads about ex-boyfriends for an hour and a half, but that's just me. I don't think anyone could argue that she's a very exciting person to watch live though, she's just got a good voice, and that makes her performances very limited and samey, there's no kind of "what will she do next" about her, because she's just going to be standing in front of a microphone singing nicely, lols. But I guess that's just what some people want :)

It's funny, a lot of people I know can't stand Gaga either but hate to admit her capabilities as a live performer, especially after they were forced to watch her at Radio 1's Big Weekend whilst waiting for Family Guy (H)

You're trolling right? I've seem BMTH twice and both times they've sucked so bad. Oli's vocals are god awful live.

The best live bands I've ever seen are probably You Me At Six, Lower Than Atlantis or The Ghost Inside. I've seen them all multiple times and each time they've just gotten better and better

The best performance I've ever seen has been Sufjan Stevens.

Simply incredible, the costumes, the graphics, the songs, the most fun I've ever had at a concert. AGH!!! BALLOONS. I LOVE BALLOONS. The Age of Adz is one of my favourite albums ever.

that's the thing, some bands/artists are better suited to small venues whereas some are more effective in sold out arenas/stadiums

i think it depends on your own personal taste and the genre of music really

If I was to choose three best live performers off the top of my head it would have to be these three..

Adele - I often prefer to listen to her live performances.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHi9bM_ZE10

Biffy Clyro - I loved his performance at Wembley.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2v4YsLpI8c

Artic Monkeys - I've always thought these were good live.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W13hl5PRaXc

I also think that Lady Gaga, Beyoncé & Muse are amazing live. They're not artists I would listen to but they can certainly sing live. :)

You do an English A Level, yet your grammar and syntax forming is extremely ****. I didn't say you were wrong, I said I doubt you've even seen the bands I listed. If you've seen them and thought they were **** then fair enough, but I highly doubt you have. I may be wrong, but there's no reason to start launching this strange attack against my opinion.
