Sorry if this is in the wrong department.

Hi all, im looking into starting up photography, but need a good starter dslr camera, price im not too fussed about aslong as it isnt stupid as its only a starter camera.

Any help I would be grateful

You could go for the D3000 as well, very similar to the 3100, and nearly £200 cheaper...

It's probably better to spend a little less on a starter just incase you don't quite hit it off with Photography and decide it's not for you...

Canon and Nikon are about the same at the entry level for quality, what you need to think about is the future if you're ever going to upgrade to better gear. I would say that Canon have the upper hand for progression due to their high quality L series lenses. I tried a few Nikons out in some electronics stores, and I am glad I went with a Canon, they feel much more ergonomic.

The best way to pick is to go into Jessops or somewhere and try them out for yourself, see what feels good to hold etc, when buying a camera like this you're pretty much buying into that manufacturer's entire ecosystem of lenses and accessories.
