You pay for what you get, if you want cheap then it'll be cheap and cheerful, might not be the best speed or support. Simplexwebs is a fantastic host, I'd not consider anyone else! I'm pretty sure there is a thread around the technology section about which host to go with. Also, for domains I'd go for Simplex or www.123-reg.co.uk (http://www.123-reg.com)

I'd definitely go to SimplexWebs for your domains, but since they switched to Enterprise Hosting only, it isn't quite as affordable as it used to be :P (It's still great though, I'm on a UK package!)

I fail to see how £50 a year is expensive.

When I owned Vuze Hosting last year, our cheapest package was £8pm so £50py SEEMS good, for the domains I would personally go to GoGaddy, been the best for me.
I use in motion hosting (http://www.inmotionhosting.com/). I've had no problems so far :)

I suggest using zfast.co.uk
reasons:
Cheap
Great Service
Its £1 for hosting a month and then like £6 for ur domain for the year.
