David Yates (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/david-yates/)has revealed that he is working on aDoctor Whomovie.

According toVariety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118046098), theHarry Potter (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/completecoverage/harrypottermania/)director will develop the film with BBC Worldwide's Jane Tranter.

"We're looking at writers now," Yates confirmed. "We're going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena."

Yates explained that the film would not follow on from the TV show, currently starringMatt Smith (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/matt-smith/)as the Time Lord, and would instead take an entirely new approach to the classic sci-fi.

"Russell T Davies (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/russell-t-davies/)and thenSteven Moffat (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/steven-moffat/)have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch.

"We want a British sensibility, but having said that, Steve Kloves wrote thePotterfilms and captured that British sensibility perfectly, so we are looking at American writers too."

Explaining his reasons behind joining the project, he added: "The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time."

No thank you, it will be a pot of crap in my opinion as Dr Who has always needed a build up

I think, They'll change the format someway, Make it more hollywood! Nothing like the TV series!

I mean it could easily work with another Time Lord, or just the time war.

But I do think Doctor Who is best left as TV format.

Make it a trilogy I would say. I would also like to see how it works with a big budget, and I hope they stick with British doctor (or I will be pissed). Now a movie is in the works, I hope they'll make a decent game for it (not of those adventure games crap).

I agree with the people above,
I'm not sure they'll be able to pull off a movie...
I think 45 minutes a week was enough,
It will just be 2 hours of absolute nonsense, and then a crazy, ridiculous ending that no one will be able to understand...

Nothing will top the old films

The only way it could work is if DW was coming to an end and would never be made again... to have a final end as a film thats the only way i could see it.

Inseriousity.

lol steve kloves didnt capture british sensibilityat all (gawky american humour at everydark scene)but whatever :P

dont like the idea of a tv doctor doing one thing and a movie doctor doing another, just sounds like someone tryna make money from it.

I don't like the idea of it not following on from the series as wouldn't it mean its a remake.

I wouldn't mind a kind of x-files thing - the x-files first movie was between series and explain some of the mythology and did work (unlike the second)

Just creating a film with not the series ties to me would alienate fans.

Just read that apparently Harry Potter lead Daniel Radcliff is one of the top people beingassociatedwith the role. The sound of this film to me just seems to keep getting worse.

It's pure speculation at the moment, but in my eyes he's far too young for the role. I think a film could be quite promising if the right decisions are made (however I don't think the right decisions will be made). Though could a film exist without the doctor? We could see what happens at the end of the timewar, which I think would be when they're sent back in the End of Time. Hm...

Could purely be a movie about another Time Lord and life on gallifrey.

A prequel to the whole series, before doctor #1. I actually would like to see that.

It would tell us too much about timelord mythology, it would end up cannibalising the series.

I doubt it would work. They want to pull in new fans by the sound of it but that might just make things more confusing.
