so basically i'm having real problems with my sleeping, and sleeping patterns and not sleeping enough etc etc. i was just wondering if people thought it'd be worthwhile to go the doctor about it? cause i mean it's not exactly a case of life or death but i am really feeling awful from it.

at the moment i'm waking up at 5am and going to sleep at 10pm. but i'm feeling tired from 8ish. no matter how tired i am, i can't sleep any longer than 5am. which is a bit weird.

all the usual methods of trying to help sleep just don't work, i can't switch off and sleep eurgh :(

so yeah, should i go to the doctor? should i try in-store medication? any help would be great.

That's really weird cause it wasn't that long ago we wern't going to bed till 5am so your pattern has changed completely. I think it would be wise to go and see about it!

Go to your doctor and see what he recommends, he'll probably put you on some kind of sleeping pills. Maybe try like hypnosis? I know my Dad use to have a problem relaxing but he downloaded these mp3 audio tracks and they talk you through how to relax and fall asleep. In the end he can do it without the tapes and fall asleep in minutes.

I know this may be counter-intuitiveif you're feeling tired, but are you getting enoughexerciseand fresh air every day? I know that heavily ruins my sleeping pattern if I don't. maybe your body adrenaline is making you wake up or something idk.

personally I wouldn't go to the Docs until it's actually heavily affecting your daily routine, cause in the end of the day you don't end up doing much between 8 and 10 pm and I'm the sort of person who tries to minimise my medicine intake

well you say that you've tried the usual methods, so i'd go to the doctors, get some pills and pow. but then you'd have to rely on pills to get to sleep, which isn't exactly a good thing. so i'd go, see if you can get some pills just for a while and see if he can recommend you to a specialist (idk, but they must exist surely). if that's not free on the nhs then as mark said, download those calming mp3 tracks and see if they do ought.

I don't think that sleeping pattern is that bad, 10pm-5am is still a good 7 hours sleep! I'd be lucky to get that most days. I don't think going to the doctors will do much, they will probably just prescribe you sleeping pills which will help. My granddad goes to sleep at around 10pm and wakes up at 4-5am everyday, he has done it all his life and he's 84 now. He just doesn't sleep well I guess!

Try staying up past 10pm if you can, but I'm sure you've tried that already. Surely if you go to bed at 1am you won't wake at 5am though? Otherwise I think sleeping pills it is!

you don't need medication at all. i'm very aware of your situation because it happens to me sometimes.
first, don't change you sleeping time. stick with it!
second, you have to differentiate clearly between feeling sleepy and tired. if you were talking about 8am ish, then you're just sleepy.
third, remember not to have heavy breakfasts. a piece of bread with jam or whatever and a cup of juice is enough already. drink lots of water to remove excess glucose in your body.
fourth, if the problem continues, go to the doctor.

when i say i feel tired about 8ish at night, it's not a tired as in aw man i feel sleepy. i get headaches, i feel sick, my joints hurt. it's a real ache.

to me going to bed at 10 is just too early, i know that that is fine for some people but for me, i just, no. i managed to push it to 7:00am this morning but i feel knackered even now. i took some herbal stuff and it kinda knocked me out for an extra hour but it was lucid and not very nice. :(

Relaxation tapes help a lot. But you have to find the perfect one for you. Having a creepy-voiced man reading you a thriller isn't going to help you sleep.

You could try finding someone reading you a book you like (Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter or something) or just listen to calming, lyric-less music helps too. You can find stuff on the internet or maybe in a bookshop or library?
