A while ago habbox use to have auctions. they would charge a small fee to auction off items for players. I remember someone putting up a duck for auction. a bidding frenzy erupted eventually the duck sold for a hc sofa - (this was before the days of coins/creds).

habbox gets a few decent donations for comp. prizes. how about hold an auction for some of them. then coins generated from the sale can go towards an "auction lotto" orsomethinglike that.

I like this idea! :) I've seen some pretty popular auction rooms on the client lately and I think it would be a good way of turning some of the donations that perhaps wouldn't be suitable for prizes etc and turn them into credits/HC sofas or whatnot. I know there are quite a few misc rares at the moment and it would be a good way of turning these into better prizes whilst having a bit of fun.

I think this could be a fun event whilst providing good advertising and promotion for Habbox at the same time really and would certainly be worth giving a go. You could have different values of rares of course from cheap items up to more expensive items and even if they do go for cheap then its no different to doing a giveaway but at least there's a chance of getting some return on the items all the while whilst having fun and getting the Habbox name out there. You could even have a specific jackpot for funds raised to go into as the OP stated this could be a lottery prize, or be used for the main christmas promotion prizes or what not.

Sounds like a great idea and if implemented I can see it being fun! :)
