People seem to say "Oh Noez I has been hax0rd!!111one!1" a lot. So I Thought I'd make this guide to spot the difference.

Scams:
A Scam is often confused for hacking in many cases, a scam is where you're conned out of your password via trickery or information fed to you by another user, for e.g:

Habbo User 1: Hey, want some free credits?
Habbo User 2: Um, yeah sure :D I Don't have to give out my password do I? :(
Habbo User 1: Nope, it turns into ***** when you say it in the client anyway!
Habbo User 2: Oh cool what do we do then?
Habbo User 1: Dance doing the pogomogo then click ctrl+c+c and then v.
Habbo User 2: Uh okay.
Habbo User 1: Type your Habbo password but don't click enter!
Habbo User 2: Okay then.
Habbo User 1: Have you done it?
Habbo User 2: p45510rdYes
Habbo User 1: LOL Cya loser!
Habbo User 2: -_- damn.

The idea of becoming staff or a Hobba is a huge tempt, there was and is THOUSANDS of these all over the place hosted on freewebs, pixo, yola etc they are ALL scams. If you want free credits it's best going to a give away or playing some ff, cc or dhtw games. Always go to those hosted by STAFF on fansites which are trusted or official. That way you can be almost sure you won't be scammed.

Hackers:
Hackers used to and still do in some cases use illegal software on Habbo which can be used to get into someones account. A prime example is a 'brute forcer' which is no longer operational within Habbo because of the captcha forms which were put in place around the time 'Finch-HIMself' was around mainly because he bruted and hacked a bunch of moderators, it's him who got these put in place really so thanks for that Finch you did something good for a change. A Brute forcer is a password guesser or 'stealer' you used to be able to get d.o.** from them as well, here's an example:

*Removed*

Brute forcers were something to be scared of, back in the day anyone could be bruted, staff members and hobbas were targeted regulary. This is another reason why captcha forms were put in place. Another form which still works is keylogging, it's not a bad thing to have a powerful antivirus, we all need a bit of protection every now and then from the dangerous viruses of the internet. Keyloggers are the only known password hackers for Habbo hotel and are common to come across so always keep your antivirus updated and computer clean.

Hope I Helped Someone Out With This, Breeze

I really didn't think anyone fooled for those first two scams anymore? Nice-ish guide so we know not what to fool for and what's the difference, although I think they're old tricks. :P

I usually say if you're scammed it's your own fault and it could have been avoided. If you're hacked it wasn't your fault coz you were targeted. Nice guide though :)

So my question is was I hacked or scammed? I got 'hacked' on the 25th December 2009 anyway, my 'details' were on a website and I didn't know nor did I get tricked into doing anything but all my furni was taken near enough (someone gave me my norms back 20hc rose lalal). Anyway is that a hack or a scam? :P!

Either that or you were phished (if you play retros this can happen and has happened a lot). Not exactly sure what happened to you but my bet is a keylogger.

I wasn't keylogged because they'd have accessed a lot more than my email and my Habbo? I even got the account back after a couple of days as someone told me the password to both. Also I never play retros so I don't think that's it either :P! I do know who 'hacked' me though.

Then again keyloggers can be sent by anyone in emails and such, if the email was from someone you knew on Habbo maybe all the keylogger did was keylog you for your Habbo stuff? Maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure :P
