View Full Version : Merge Graphics and Content?

The Graphics team has few staff members and graphics are also part of the content on the site so it would make sense to merge the two departments together to reduce the amount of departments we have here. When you open applications you could specifically state if you're looking for content graphic designers or site content designers.

*+*+ lets have a poll *+*+

but really, as long as i'm not expected to write pages, i don't mind. not like the departments get much recognition anyway.
though could be confusing for someone wanting to join a certain area as it's merged with another role under a different name?

If you'd have to specify which "designer" you're looking for, then it only seems natural to keep them seperate. The Graphics staff have nothing to do with Content, and vice versa. Just seems like a bit of a pointless change if they'd be segregated anyway! :)

I guess you could merge it into the "Design" department but I really don't see it necessary IMO.

I agree with Matt. I don't think there's any point. I suppose Graphics and Content are KIND OF similar but I don't think they should be merged.

Inseriousity.

The bold above is the key point really. If the content designers said 'as long as I'm not expected to make graphics' then what'd be the point of merging them together. People have said before that events and comps should be merged cos they are similar but they're not that similar enough imo (one's forum-orientated, one's habbo-orientated for example) to warrant a merge and graphics and content while theyre content based; one is based on writing, one's based on graphics. I could easily do the writing but the graphics I wouldn't have a clue.

In the past I have supported a news/articles merge rather than 2 departments because they are both writing departments for habbox.com so it is practical to do so. I don't think this merge is practical and therefore I don't agree with it.

IMO i dont think they should be merged. A lot of people on habbo go arent graphic designers and content designers the same? But they arent really because people in content might not know how to make graphics but then

as long as I'm not expected to make graphics comes along. So i dont really think that they should be merged.

It's a very good idea on paper and mind you this does not apply to all our staff (a lot of them are very talented individuals) but we simply cannot force graphics staff to produce content and we simply cannot force content staff to produce graphics. In some cases quite literally because it's possible a graphics designer is a horrible content and vice versa as well. We have to adhere to what staff signed up to do, and we cannot push additional tasks or twists toward them that they didn't sign up for. On the other side of this, though, graphics staff are completely welcome to apply to write content, and content staff are also welcomed to apply to become graphics designers, if they so choose :)

If the departments are both happy as they are, then leave them be and do not interfere.
