RNLI lifeboats. They save a lot of lives and at a time when their resources are being cut quite dramatically I think it would be a nice touch and a bit different.

Hmm yeah, ChildLine definitely :)

I think it would also be nice (I haven't seen last years 'nominees') if next year, some animal charities were introduced? :P

But yeah, for this one - definitely ChildLine, helped me a lot ^_^

Was there a point to this thread (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=719104) then? Seems like MIND which loads of people were up for isn't on the list and instead there's a load that no-one's ever heard of let alone suggested

Why so many childrens charities? We've donated to them so much in the past, would be nice for the money to go to somewhere else for a change. I voted RNLI for that reason.

Same here. Out of all charities, I mainly support Cancer Research UK, Air Ambulance and RSPCA.

disgusted at this. i suggested mind in the last thread and got support from many others [@]@flyingjesus[/@] [@]@rozi[/@] [@]@lawrawrr[/@] [@]@stephen![/@]; ([@]@kyle[/@] in this thread) to name a few.

it's cool i have enough VIP til may and i won't be buying VIP when we've frankly been ignored and made yr own list up.

Well, can I vote for a few times instead of just one? UNICEF will be a great choice but I voted for Childline since a lot of users voted for that and I don't live in UK. Thought Childline is a great choice then.

SitchJon
27-11-2011, 09:36 AM
UNICEF and Water they are the ones that need it more

beth
27-11-2011, 09:45 AM
ight so i went through the other thread and here is what I make the poll should be if you actually take into account what people have voted for.

help for heroes
water
cancer research
macmillan
nspcc
childline
kidscape
makeawish
shelter
dyspraxia foundation
barnados
plan-uk.org/sponsorachild
aware-ni
riders for health
yorkhill
mind
unicef
scope
marie curie
wspca
rspca
british film institute
childrens heart foundation

right so you chose the 15 out of them, and rather than choose a charity that at least 30% of that thread were supporting you've added choices that ONE person chose "riders for health" i am sure they are very worthy causes but i think this is a complete and utter farce. and there was also the point that habbox was one of the only fansites that didn't make that much of a fuss over the loss of one of it's members to suicide, and mind deals with teen suicide.

(just gonna tag people who supported mind so they can help push this [@]@FlyingJesus[/@] [@]@Rozi[/@] [@]@Chippiewill[/@] [@]@GommeInc[/@] [@]@Stephen![/@]; [@]@Kyle[/@] [@]@Lawrawrr)[/@]

I've voted for them all because I don't think it's appropriate for me to support one over the other when I don't know enough about them. I'm not a large supporter of major charities and would have preferred not to vote, but I couldn't put up with the annoying poll at the top of my index any longer.

I have contacted each and every charity for the last 2 years so we can get a fund raising pack and it also allows us to offset some taxes if given the right documents.

The fund raising pack is usually things that I can use to further boost donations outside of Habbox for example for last years MAWF fundraising pack they sent me 150 wish pins, vectored graphics, trademark information, POS displays (for the pins) and tax forms. This allowed me to boost the donation by £150 as I managed to sell all the pins over about 7 days in my town centre.

MIND haven't even contacted me back after several attempts to contact them via different methods, so I cut them as I wasn't prepared to have to pay taxes on the extra revenue we receive during Christmas for raising money for a charity that don't bother to contact me or even return a phone call.

Other charities were cut due to a lack of community interest or because they were a bit pants.

This is totally justified imo, I'm for the charity as an idea but if they don't care enough about donations to return a phone call then clearly they're not that desperate.

This also really shows how much work Jin puts into this charitable effort each year.

thank you for clearing this up, would've been easier if it could've perhaps been put in the first post to clear up confusion. and make it feel like the community as a large hadn't been ignored.

Don't see why GOSH etc. are always on the list, they get enough money. Places like Cancer Research spend ya money on pens and badges.

Why didn't MIND get chosen? I think Bethie suggested that, it was really popular.

Once again, a stupid vote.

Appreciate you letting us know this, massive shame as I truly think they're one of the most important charities in the developed world at present, saddens me that a cause so lacking in public understanding has chosen to ignore help from people willing to really push for them.

I voted for the Childrens Heart Foundation and the Great Ormond Street Hospital - in other words the non-politically correct British charities. I'm afraid we are mostly wasting time with foreign/oversea charities as a great deal of money always goes missing/is abused by political factions in those countries (for example food aid being directed solely to pro-regime areas). A sad reality.

It is a great shame we didn't have Help the Aged/Military charities on the poll this year.

I don't get the argument "Habbox shouldn't donate to ____ because they have so much support already". It isn't like Childline for example only use the first 10 million each year to good causes and use the rest in pay bonuses. All the money they get goes to sustaining their charity and the fact they're so established just goes to show how hard they worked when they were founded as opposed to how unworthy they are of our money :P

yeah but the other charities are less heard of, it would be nice to give money to them as they obviously don't get as much as the big charities out there that are well known, and have so much publicity.
after all we're a tiny website and the donation isn't very much. it could make a bigger difference to a smaller charity

oh and also i give barnardos 21 euro a month, and i'm most definitely not the only one
it would be nice to give to another charity for a change

Yorkhill Childrens Foundation

This. I work for a company that does administrative calling work for charities, and Yorkhill is one of our clients. Some of the work they do is unbelievable, and they are the only children's hospital in Scotland that carry out things like cardiac surgery, kidney and bone marrow transplants and paediatric intensive care, for kids. Yorkhill is a charity that really has affected me, I find it ridiculous that a hospital has been forced to set up its' own charity to fund equipment such as ENT diagnostic suites and paediatric intensive care ambulances, simply because the funding they receive for the NHS does not stretch far enough. Plus it's in Scotland, so I fully support them.

My mum works for Yorkhill Hospital in the renal (kidney) unit and I know first hand on how much the money helps.

Really? My job is actually purely fundraising for the charities, and the campaign we're doing for Yorkhill at present is the non-responders, i.e. people who have taken on a home money box but not returned it, and trying to get them to sign up to direct debits instead. It's really one that's touched me, what with their presentation they gave and the stories and details I have on my infosheet. I love doing the campaigns for Yorkhill.
