View Full Version : [REVOTE] Which charity should Habbox Support this Christmas?

xxMATTGxx
03-12-2011, 03:42 PM
We have decided to do a revote for the charity Habbox should support this Christmas. The poll will have the top three from the previous poll and will also now include MIND.

Here is a table with the name of each charity and a description of what they do. The one with the most votes at the end of the poll will be the charity Habbox will be supporting this year through the sale of the Christmas VIP which you can buy by going to here (http://www.habboxforum.com/payments.php).

voted for mind, but yeah like bethie ran outta rep (next is robbie) so will continue tomorrow. but nevertheless, spreading rep is a decent way to get those to vote for something which benefits a **** load of people, even though outside of this forum rep doesn't mean anything. like i have family members who have suffered from mental health in the past, and even though mind didn't help them specifically, it's horrible to watch people suffer like that.

MIND seems to me, from the website, to be well into being PC.

Commenting on Jeremy Clarkson's column in The Sun today about suicide, Mind's Chief Executive Paul Farmer said

"Jeremy Clarkson's article in The Sun is extraordinarily tasteless, and
shows an utter lack of understanding of the tragedy of any suicide.
Anyone who has ever contemplated suicide seriously or lost loved ones
will be shocked by his insensitive tone and needless graphic detail.
Mind and fellow mental health charity Rethink Mental Illness will be
making a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission urging them to
investigate this article.

I don't like it when charity of any kind becomes involved in politics/attempting to close down free speech.

I voted for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

There won't be any further rounds. Plus, I wouldn't even call this a round. It's a revote.

Well thats hardly fair and ill-thought out. Other charities have been knocked out on the basis of low votes, one charity has been included in the last remaining list of charities which means its been removed from the knockout process of the first round. If it were a revote, then all charities on the last list should be included and not knocked out - especially when another has simply been added.

I'm not a fan of revotes but a final between the top two charities would only be fair given how its been run so far.

FlyingJesus

MIND was added because it was supposed to be there from the start and (as can quite clearly be seen) has a massive amount of support. It was only left out because of a misunderstanding between them and Jin

It's fair and you are also incorrect about the addition of MIND. There is no need for another round after this, there wouldn't of been another round from the first one but since we wanted MIND added we thought it would be nice to give them a chance to.

doesn't matter if people are voting because they're getting reputation, like i say it's not like we're winning anything. it's money being given to a CHARITY. stop arguing for the sake of arguing. it's a good cause no matter where it goes. you sound like you're trying to convince yourself over nothing :S

I'm not asking for a ban on people giving reputation for votes, I just don't find it very honest or good sportsmanship. Infact i'm not all that passionate concerning this charity fundraising, i'm simply making the case about voting because I know if I supported strongly any of the other charities then I wouldn't of liked the way its been run in knockouts. But as I said earlier (before you put your foot in it), the vote will be won based on green bars - so it hardly matters what I think.

If you're going to have a go at repping then you may as well have a go at any charity which gives things out for donations, especially the poppy appeal which is tantamount to blackmail when it comes to social expectations (not that it's not a deserving cause)

Inseriousity.
03-12-2011, 08:50 PM
I do actually agree with undertaker (dun dun dun, i swear i dont read the daily mail :P). If MIND is as popular as everyone is making out to be then it wouldn't need the extra 'giving reputation' push. :)

Stephen
03-12-2011, 09:07 PM
imo it does need that push. Everyone knows every year the winner is a well known charity mainly because people only vote for the ones they know which is STOOOOPID

Hxf needs to donate to less known charities and I think giving rep to people who vote is the only way to get these suckers to do it :@

I agree that it would be nicer to donate to less known charities, and that's why I haven't voted for GOSH as I think I did last year. Whether you give rep or not, I'm sure people would still vote for it but I can see why some people may go for the ones they've heard of most.

the only reason i offered and then jen, tom and everyone else who is offering rep on mind is because we care about this charity, and frankly we know without a little push others would vote childline without even thinking about it, just because they know it.

GirlNextDoor15
04-12-2011, 02:18 AM
I have never heard of any of them but since it's less known, then there should be a little push so that they will get society's support in order to help those who need help. What's a house without the bricks. MIND sounds like BEFRIENDERS here even though they are not the same but still should be cared.

What makes you think that it doesn't deserve our money? It needs our support so that it can help other kids. That 'damn advice helpline' you just said has also helped kids just like other charity organizations. If it doesn't deserve our money like what you just said, then there shouldn't be a revote at all. I don't understand why you have to be so ignorant.

What a ridiculous statement. Do you know how many children grow up to have serious problems because they had no one to speak to when they were younger and abused and such?

I have abosolutly nothing against mental health, and yes I agree it is a very big problem, but I just know a lot of people who have died from or are living with cancer, and heart problems, and I don't like to see people in that kind of pain

If we go by what you are saying, then every charity that has ever been in the poll since the start should get some money. It's not going to work like that this time round. We are going with one charity this year, although there is nothing stopping you or anyone else donating money to that charity.

Habbox isn't the gateway to donating to charity. If you feel a charity needs donations and Habbox members have voted differently then you're perfectly ad lib to donate to another charity in person, on their website or through other means. The benefits of having a coloured name aren't that great, and pretty useless to the charity.

i was just about to say that it provides advertisement for the chosen charity, but it doesn't really. when the poll closes and the charity wins would it be possible to have a banner/icon somewhere on the forum index advertising said charity for as long as the VIP is sold? [@]@xxMATTGxx[/@] ?
