Is it possible to add a filter to "new posts" ?

Hi, have a suggestion but i'm not sure if it's a possibility.

Is there some way to add a filter option (a drop down box maybe?) to the "new posts" section? There are some sections on this forum that i'm not interested in and it would be great to not have to sift through them all the time.
