I live in America, and a big thing that has been going around is people are protesting or argueing over taking CHRIST out of Christmas. They argue over this because some people don't believe in Christ or Santa.
They want to keep "CHRISTmas" out of schools cause it seems unfair to people who don't celebrate the holiday.

What do you think?

I find it stupid, It's always been that way. If you don't want you kids celebrating Christmas in a Public school, spring the cash for private school.

Christmas isn't just about Jesus or God. It's about family, Mess with my family, you mess with me.

that's my opinion.

:-D

so if they take CHRIST out, what are they going to call it?? mas?? then they'll be like "oh we can't call it mas cause it's too much like mass (the catholic practise)" prob lol
or do you mean like just have christmas as a day to spend with family and not talk about Jesus or God or go to church. isn't that why they call it Xmas instead? ok im confusing myself
why not go get your own tradition then. i don't even know what to say :S I know like jehovah witness' are allowed to choose whether they study religious education in school or not but this takes the piss lol.

It's just another one of these things which isn't going to affect anyone in the slightest. It's like the case of people saying it's no longer pc to refer to blackboards and whiteboards as such and instead they should be referred to as chalkboards and 'wipe' boards respectively. People still call them their former names and are unlikely to change just because a minority think that it's not pc.

Likewise even if they did move to stop using the word Christmas in schools, which they won't, then you'd still have the majority of teachers who'd disregard it due to personal opinion and the kids' parents would most likely still be calling it Christmas as well.

For the record I agree that it's completely stupid to consider changing the word based on the grounds that it isolates other religions. But my main point is that changing a word, especially one as big as Christmas, isn't something that will ever happen overnight.

Oh come on, the whole tradition is basically related to the birth of Christ - regardless of what atheists think, it doesn't mean they should be changing words just so it suits them better.

Honestly, naming it mas (similar to mass) is just idiotic. Xmas is ok I guess... but I can't imagine myself saying merry xmas irl, would be weird.

Christmas all the way thanks, I'm not ever saying Xmas irl or Mas... :S.

I only ever type Xmas if I'm being lazy but I won't say it!
I agree with this though. I'll always say it as Christmas and think of it as that because of how it originated and stuff! :P

I couldn't add to this earlier because of forum issues.

Anyway - if atheists have that much of an issue with the Christ in Christmas , maybe they should stop celebrating Easter as well? That has its religious connections. Quite a few celebrations do.

It's much too fuss over nothing as I was saying. This is basically "Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays" all over again.
