Hey,
I love habboxforum but one thing i don't agree with is when a user leaves they should be entitled to have the option of making their account 'anonymous'. I have posted things over the years that may portray a racist or vile image of myself. We all make mistakes and say stupid things, should something i have done as a teenager haunt me as an adult? Obviously if i was to become biebers partner in crime, stuff like this would haunt me and could even damage my future career. I understand entirely why you can't just remove posts, it would be like removing a chapter from a book, you would get lost half way through the book. However is it not possible to even allow people to disable their account somewhat like facebook but instead of removing everything just put all the disabled accounts under the name anonymous and if people choose to come back they can enable their account (it should take some time to get their account restored fully like a month to stop messers) by logging in and selecting 'enable account'. I'm sure there is a plugin out there that allows this but it just involves some digging out.

I sound like a right muppet and the chances are I personally won't become famous but what if others do and something like this bites them in the bum when it really doesn't have to. The majority of the stuff I post here I regret for that reason and that reason only and if i had the option to make my posts anonymous it would put my mind at ease encase i wish to do it in the future.

I'm sure half the people on the forum haven't really thought about it 'cause they weren't an arse to people like the other half of the forum but even small things like embarrassing posts you made about health that you don't want people to be able to search through search engines, they may find it but it'd be under the account anonymous so they wouldn't know it's you.

I understand in habboxforums terms and conditions it basically says anything we post becomes your content, which is fair enough but does it really have to be a battle to get something like this implemented. If we want to get technical about terms and conditions i didn't ask for my parents consent to agree to the terms and conditions so i was just a minor at the time and realistically by law, need my parents consent to agree to any terms and conditions.

I hate how we have so little control over what we post. How you only have 15 minutes to edit it and then also how how you can't remove messages from your own profile which others have posted. But yeh I'm always conscious about posting rl stuff just incase so I agree.

It'd be ridiculous if you could edit your posts over 15 minutes after they've been made. It's your decision to post it so be careful when choosing which content you post. If you could edit any post of yours whenever you wanted to, most threads wouldn't make sense and it'd look messy with loads of false quotations etc.

Yea I agree that it would be messy and I don't think you should be allowed to edit it but there could be a preset message or something that you could change it too. I remember before I wanted something deleted of my profile and when I asked for it to be removed, I was told mods couldn't delete it. The only thing you can do is ask the person who wrote it to take it down but its your profile and I think you should have more control over that.

Oh, with VM's I 100% agree with you :P It's stupid how you can't delete another users VM that's on your profile.

I don't know I kinda agree and kinda don't

Like if you become famous people aren't exactly gonna know your hxf name and check posts, and most likely habbox will be long dead before you become famous

I'd also hate to look at an old thread and see 28 anonymous people replying to each other, and if this became possible, every banned member would want the stuff deleted and that would ultimately screw with bans as all 'evidence' is gone as it won't link to you

But also see where you're coming from as alot of people act less mature on here due to it just being the Internet and never going to effect you irl.

as an actor in training (well not currently but you get what i mean) if i ever became "famous" or even was just in a play and someone wanted to know who i was and found me on here, i'd be extremely embarrassed but i also take scotts idea of how messy it would make the entire forum and i think it would become a logistical nightmare.

i think perhaps if the forum is still going in 5 years, then maybe there should be a thing for anyone who has been using the forum for 10 years or more to have some kind of anonymity.

Inseriousity.

If you all become famous, feel free to drop by and ask whoever is general manager to remove all your posts in exchange for signed autographs we can give away in Habbox competitions.

I agree with scott here, it's just not practical to do this and doesn't really make any sense. How is anyone going to possibly connect you back to this place? Do you talk about it with your real life friends? Will you mention it in any up and coming interviews? Will journalists hack your phone and find your voicemails to (ex-)habbox members? We all say and do stupid things and for most people, this is fine because the past stays in the past cos no-one really gives a damn enough to care. I don't like the idea tbh, seems a rather farfetched situation (ie becoming famous) needs to occur before this complaint really proves substantial.

I was watching a Panorama episode about Scientology earlier in the year and saw how this stuff can be abused. If you speak against Scientology, their leaders have been known to document absolutely everything in your past and then hold it against you. I support this idea 100% and I think there's a major problem when you can't get personal things removed.

If you want something specific removed then simply pm an admin and they will do it for you providing that you have a good reason.

I don't really see the point in it... Don't post incriminating stuff if you don't want people to see it? Seems kinda paranoid of you to think that people are actually going to sift through your hxf posts and use things you say as a teen against you later in life.

Do think you should be able to delete VMs posted on your own page though as i have lots saying i scam which are completely false! :O

I support this idea, it would be of a great service by the forum to members who wish to enact this.

A member has spent all that time on the forum, its the least an administrator could do for when they leave.

It would be a good service, but following certain criteria, for example, not applicable to banned members etc. It would need such guidelines in place.

Also, you'd be amazed how people can trace you back to sites such as this, even if you don't mention it etc.

There is a simple answer to this problem, beware of what you put on the internet. This rule has been taught for years, so before you post something, think of how it will affect you in the future. For instance this reply might make people dislike me for disagreeing with their views. Think before you post! ;)

I disagree, all of the other forums I go on have infinite edit times and have no problems with it.

A good idea also, on another forum I visit, is if people want their accounts deactivating and anonymising, they change the user's username to their forum ID number, this way, they're still identifiable as the same person, but don't carry an alias that can be easily connected to say... a facebook account or other forum accounts around the internet.

Presently, if a VIP member wishes to do this, they need only request a name change here (http://www.habboxforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1198). That would, in theory, give them all the anonymity they should need.

I know, but I think it'd be nice if normal users were given this option for free.

Even if you get a name change, you still have people naming you in posts and content in posts which could link you though.

I thought you currently can do this? I've deleted a vm before, but it was a year back i think.

Same here, if i'm understanding this right, then i don't support this for the same reason as david. It doesn't really seem neccesary and would make lots of annoying anonymous posts in the future.

I mean it's very unlikely that somebody is gona stalk your life all the way back to hxf, and even if they did who really cares? I wouldn't. If they brought up an embarrasing post i made then i'd just say that i was young and it has no relevance to me now.
