I'm 15 atm, 16 in march. I need i.d for various things - piercings, cinema etc. I don't and never have had a passport because I've never been abroad or on holiday. I have a birth certificate but I'm not sure if that would be accepted ebcause it doesn't have my photo and I have a school pass to let me out at lunch with my name, dob and photo but tbh that's not an official i.d is it? My nanas taking me on holiday to spain for mu first ever time when I'm 17 so ill have a passport then but what can I use atm? I feel stuck :(

Hello there,
An acceptable form of ID within the UK is the Citizencard. This is a ID card which must be applied for (the application process is much like the one for a passport, although you do not need an interview). This card is accepted widely, but when you reach 16 your age bracket changes so I reccomend that you hold off applying for one until then. More information can be found here (http://www.citizencard.com/).
Don't be put off by the picture, under 18's can still apply for one.

I hope that this helps. Please ask if you need any further information.

Regards

I've heard of that but connexions at school said you could only pay for it online and my mum won't put any money online

You can also pay by postal order (which means that you go into a post office, ask for a postal order, give the post office the money and they give you a slip) and send it off with a application form that can be found here (http://www.citizencard.com/ccappform.pdf)

Kind Regards

If you are 16 soon then you should be getting your National Insurance number thing or something. Or in cinemas they usually show that citizen card where you pay £15 or something for a ID.

Get a Citizen Card. Birth certificates and N.I. cards are not acceptable forms of ID as they are not photographic and do not bear the PASS hologram.

Thank you, I'll get one as soon as I have some spare cash :)

At my cinema they accept NI cards

but yeah I'm sure you will need ID with a photo for other stuff.

Does that mean National insurance? I got a letter today with my national insurance number but it actually says on the letter that that alone cannot be accepted as I.D

N.I. cards are NOT an acceptable form of ID. Re the cinema, whichever staff members ccept them as ID aren't great at their jobs.

i think as everyone says citizen card is best for now, I think some cities also run schemes for young people and id (birmingham used to) so check out yr local council website too.

Use a passport if you have one but take extra care not to misplace it.

I often get away with using my college student ID card, though that's assuming you're going to college and that college uses ID cards.

I work at a cinema, we don't accept N.I cards and I know that vue officially doesn't but you do get some spineless staff who accept it (because they are too afraid to reject people) but if they got caught they would face disciplinary procedures.

No, 16.

No, you can get them at any age. I have had one since I was 13. You just get one that says 'Under 16' on it.

1. Find a pal who is 18 and looks like you in their drivers license
2. Use it
3. Profit

Get someone with a driving license 18+ ask them to request for a new one saying that they'd lost theirs

Replacement costs like £20

My brother is 16 and he always gets ID because his mate looks really young so they assume the my brother just looks older. He just takes his passport and then there's no confusion.

National Insurance Number's do not class as I.D
When you're 16 you can apply for a provisional license and if you're planning on going to college / sixth form you can get a student card.
