I'm creating a new How-to wiki site, "helpmelearn.it" (help me learn it). Yes, I know there are plenty more how-to wiki sites out there like wikihow.com, ehow.com, howiw.com, etc. This is also very similar to those and closely resembles Wikipedia. It is crowdsourced and powered by mediawiki, meaning the articles will be written by the general public. One difference between this site and the other how to wiki sites is this one is completely, 100% ad-free. Just like Wikipedia. No ads of any kind, anywhere. And I have no plans of ever implementing an advertisement code into the site.

You have to register to edit or add to the site. I did this mostly to stop spammers from just visiting and vandalizing the website, but I know that's not enough to stop them. I will do the best I can with the cleanup and you can help too. Nevertheless, I hope this site will help many individuals with whatever they need just as any other how-to site does.

Great. Looks like I fixed that error then. I think there was a semicolon I forgot somewhere in the css file

Having trouble seeing it in Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.25. Used Chrome and worked, I was hoping for it to look a little different then the generic wiki sites out there. Maybe you should try coding a custom skin for it.

As far as your site features I think they are typical wiki features, which is good but maybe you can enable the use of embedding video. That way if someone has like a video tutorial they can post it still.

Here is what I am seeing in my Firefox browser.

Hmm..I did have that same trouble on Firefox 4.0 but when I tried it on a different computer with Firefox 9.0.1 it opened up correctly. Yes, I was looking into doing a custom skin, but the thing is...I'm not really good with designing hehe. But that is something I will do in the future, once i get this up and running. I need to start putting up some how-to articles, because its really empty now..

As for videos, that is a good idea. I wasn't thinking of that. But I will look into how to have video uploads to the site. Thanks for the suggestion Dottz, video uploads will definitely be there.

If you want to launch a site like this you need to launch it with an infrastructure and several hundred preexisting articles.

Interesting idea, but not a unique idea, nor well executed as it seems like just a plain old mediawiki install which you've changed a couple of the settings for.

Thats right, Chippiewill, I didn't plan as much as I did. I was expecting more of people contributing articles..I have some of my own, which I'm writing up and uploading as soon as possible. I did just a quick mediawiki install and just fiddling around with the code. So far there is only 1 other person in the "team" other than me and it is a slow start.

It says the website is down right now, but if you want any chance at success I suggest you have plenty of well-written articles already up and ready to be cached so you have search engines bringing you traffic and repeat users after that.

This! However I love the domain!
