I put so much effort in, revised, went to school for weekend sessions for months and months, was sure I'd get a C since C was 47/200 and I got a D. It sounds pretty bad but I'm not sure if it's wroth retaking. I gotta pay £28 by the end of the week which neither I or my parents have spare otherwise its £84. It seems so much and it's gonna be a waste if I just fail it again. I'm not going to uni or anything just college to do hairdressing and the course only specify's that I need english at a C or above and 2 D's in any other GCSE subjects. Doesn't say anything about maths so I'm not sure if colleges will mind that I've got a D in maths. I'm straight A's in other stuff like R.E. I've also done functional skills maths at level 2 so even if college are bothered about maths instead do you think they'd accept that over a maths GCSE?

Well if you feel confident enough and feel that you may need it for the future then I would do it now rather than later. Functional skills maths is something you will do at college anyway, but as you have already done it I wouldn't have thought that you would be made to do it again. :)

if it were me i'd retake it because if you go off hairdressing or find its not for you most courses will require it. even if they're not connected. for example i did acting and I still needed to have english at b or above and a maths at c.

I agree with bethie, its not just at college but it also gives you the advantage for when you do look for employment if you have c and above in your gcse results. So i would give it another ago if i was you, at least you will know what to expect this time if you did resit it.

Most things need maths at c or above so I would repeat!

It's proper stressing me out, because my mum said downright she can't afford it and my mock I got a U and the real exam I got a D and idk what to do. My mum said the only way I'll be able to do it is if school pay for it :/

C in maths or you'll face a pain in the future getting courses and jobs.
It's ridiculous but you need it for god knows who's sake.

Yes you should resit it, I believe I resat mine 7 times. I believe the last 3 times were wasted due to the teachers giving up. When I was in sixth form I had a way better teacher in the form of Mr Whalley and in the space of 2 month, got me a C in maths. (and that was only 2 hours a week, top lad)

You had to resit GCSE maths 7 times? Don't blame that on your teachers...

He wasn't really blaming his teachers, just praising the last one much more as obviously the other ones didn't have a good method for him (which is the biggest teaching problems).

Anyway getting a C at maths would probably be the best idea. Whenever (if you do) retake it, just work at it really hard for a few days or so. I started AS decision working at a D level which soon went up to a C. I then done a past paper at a C, and the next one at a B (in the space of about a week). Hoping to get an A on the recent exam. It's really easy to improve at maths compared to other subjects. It doesn't require much reading, just applying logic (and maybe remember a formula or two).

At my school they will pay for your resit in some circumstances, so you should ask at yours. I think it's worth trying to get a C because maths is often a subject that employers find important.

I think you definitely need to resit it. As someone said above, if you go off hairdressing or it doesn't work out for you, you will need a c or above in maths. A D in maths probably won't look too tidy for anyone looking at your CV or whatever.

Did you take the maths exam last november?

I took that one, and all of the teachers at my school said that it was abnormally hard so if you retake I'm sure it'll be easier? A lot of my class didn't do as well as hoped (missing out on the A* or A by just a few marks in some cases).

Having said that, I got 191/200 :p

i would recommend getting atleast a C in maths, as it's normally what employers look for.

Oops sorry just made a new thread on this. My school are paying for a remark as I was 2 marks off a c so fingers crossed and if that doesn't work they're paying for my resit in 6 weeks time! I hope it is easier thought tbh :/

I think it probably will be, the one in Nov was very hard (I'm just very good at maths if I say so myself which is why I got a high mark).

Remember if you find it easier, then so will everyone else and so the grade boundaries will be higher. For instance, that was a hard maths paper so an A* was only 80%, when usually its ~90%. An easier paper means higher grade boundaries, so make sure you get those marks!

good luck :)

Thank you :) Yeah I know but idk I think I'd rather it be easier and higher boundaries than as hard as that. I feel such a failure that I didn't even get 47/200 lmao

definitely retake. Unless you get at least a C in Maths at GCSE level or equivalent - employers won't even look at you.

If you're really struggling get someone like a tutor to explain it until you get it or something?
Good luck eitherway x

Retake it and ask to do the higher paper if you did foundation or intermediate. It's easier to obtain a C.

I did higher paper but some people do the foundation. My cousin did the foundation and managed to get a g on it somehow o.O
