Hi,

Well i know i posted about this not too long ago and we were told it may change, obviously not as a few people i've repped with valid reasons have had reputation removed, I mean its not even like you remove both sides of the reputation you just remove what ever has been reported? I just don't understand it. Definition of reputation;

reputation [ˌrɛpjʊˈteɪʃən]n1. the estimation in which a person or thing is generally held; opinion
2. a high opinion generally held about a person or thing; esteem
3. notoriety or fame, esp for some specified characteristic
have a reputation to be known or notorious, esp for promiscuity, excessive drinking, or the like[from Latin reputātiō a reckoning, from reputāre to calculate, meditate; see repute]

reputationless adj

We should be able to -rep and +rep when we feel like its a good post, or a negative post. I don't even think -reps should be getting removed at all, I just think a few years ago reputation was so much more 'valid' people cared a lot more about it, now its pretty much pointless -repping as it gets removed if the user reports it.

It doesn't always get removed if the user reports it, only if it was a pointless or unnecessary rep. The rep system is much better now than it used to be. People used to -rep others just because they could. You also get people who do some dodgey dealings, and if someone points it out then they get -repped by the person for questioning them about their activity.

A reputation system like this cannot work in the way you'd like it to because it is based only on points. The reasons for people + and - repping remain private, so if the rep system were done the way you suggest it should be, then people who could indeed be saving people from a fair bit of scamming wouldn't be keeping the reputation they deserve, and would end up being seen by others as having less credibility.

Are you giving valid reasons?

Anyhow, I think negative reputation just really doesn't work anyway. It isn't really that necessary either, I think the system should just focus on positivity and giving points for stuff.

I remember a thread about a nest on Habbo whereby they asked where they could find it in the catalog. I suggested the pet section and they replied 'IT ISN'T IN THERE I AM -REPPING YOU FOR SPAM' I reported the rep and got it removed as it was a valid answer. In those cases I do agree with rep being removed.

However, if they are valid reasons then they shouldn't be removed.

but reputation means what other people think of you, Say if i disliked you Sam (which i do) i jk i jk. I could -rep you as i have a poor opinion on you. I feel this system would be far better than whats going on at the moment, Where i don't think anyone knows the system

I just think that -rep should be scrapped. You have to have some system of reporting pointless and spiteful -rep. I am sure it is looked at fairly tbh and what is usually forgotten is that it should be about the post not the person, personally.
