View Full Version : Travelling by flight without parental consent?
It's a long story but I am a deprived child haha I've never been abroad at all and only been on one holiday which was hardly that at Butlins. My nana is 60 and my grandad is about the same and they want to take me abroad to spain before they get too old and my mum has never got along with them since she divorced my dad. My mum said I can go with them but she's not gonna be held responsible for signing for me to fly and that my nana and grandad can pay out for everything blah blah blah so what's the age you can fly without written parental consent or whatever? I'm 16 this year and will be 17 when my nana and grandad plan to take me next year
You shouldn't have a problem if you're 16 and flying in the uk. As long as someone is waiting for you on the other end then you're fine.
Also it varies between airlines but I've flown down to my aunties in Birmingham from Edinburgh with flybe and it was fine. I think easyjet also let's under 18s fly alone too.
Thank you I hope so :) I won't be flying alone I'll be flying with grandparents there and back :)

Okay what i put didnt even match the question. You should be fine, I think you just need someone who is over 18 to be there at checkout, which you will.

yeah i think 16 is the age, but most flights allow you to fly alone anyway like mark said as long as someone's meeting you at the other end, plus im only 14 and going to go on holiday with my auntie who is going to holiday in cyprus this year but my mum nd sister dnt want to go so i will be flying alone (i know you're not flying alone but yeah). so you should be fine if you're going to be flying with your grandparents!! :)

Yeah, you should be alright to fly - I remember seeing 'airline' or w.e which was about stuff going on in the daily life of Easyjet - and quite a number of under 16's went on flights, I'm sure I saw a 13/14 year old being allowed on the flight?.
You'll be fine - the airport won't mind as long as there's someone waiting on the other side for you! At least you have the courage to do it, I'd never like to fly alone lmfao ;[

I think you should be okay. Let me be one of the first to wish you a wonderful holiday and a safe flight! I know you will have a great time and I am sure your age won't be a problem.

As long as you're above 14 you are allowed to fly alone but tbh they don't really check into the details as long as you have your own travel pass etc;)

I travelled by myself to Italy whenIwas 14 without any problems at all + I've travelled with my friends family with no problems aswell :) enjoy your holiday!
I flew alone for the first time ast 14, with no written consent of any kind... Then again at 15, twice, with no written consent...

If you're going with your grandparents there should be no problem with you going :)

I HATE planes tbh, but I remember when my Nanna used to live in Crete, I flew out every year on my own to go meet her.
I was always told that you can go anywhere, aslong as at the other end there's someone meeting you.
And Imo it's funner on your own because the Crew look after you really well, e.g sitting up front with them in the flight attendant seat, getting your food first etc.
And I got to freak out about flying without my mum worrying. :P
You will be fine! Turkish airline Onurair allow 14+ to fly unattended and I think most airlines are of a similar age. If your 17 you will have no issues.
