Adele makes her musical comeback after surgery as she sings for Anderson Cooper ahead of her Grammy performance

She's arguably the most famous singer of her generation, but was silenced last year when she was forced to have surgery on her vocal chords. But now Adele has made her musical comeback ahead of her highly-anticipated performance at this weekend's Grammy awards. The British singer is seen belting out a verse of her hit track Rolling In The Deep during an interview on CBS' 60 Minutes with host Anderson Cooper.

Talking about Adele's influence on the music industry, Cooper said afterwards: 'I don’t think anyone who’s vaguely conscious doesn’t listen to Adele's songs... I actually jog to Rolling In The Deep everyday.' In the interview with 60 Minutes, Adele spoke about the surgery, and described her vocal cord haemorrhage as 'like someone putting a curtain over my throat’. The injury and subsequent surgery left her unable to speak and having to resort to writing on a notepad to communicate for several weeks.

The most frustrating thing during this traumatic time was not her inability to sing, but her inability to swear, she said. However, the singer – whose album 21 was 2011’s top seller worldwide with sales of 17million – said she found an application on her iPhone which reads out words typed into the device. She added: 'The great thing is I love to swear. Most of the apps you can’t swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I’m still really getting my point across.' Meanwhile, British comedian Alan Carr has now weighed in on the controversy which began when fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld labelled Adele 'too fat'. Despite Lagerfeld having since apologised for his comments, Carr called the Chanel boss a 'vile old queen' for the remark. He said: 'Adele is beautiful - leave her alone. Lagerfeld is a vile old queen. If I see him I'd rip his grey hair off the top of his prune face.'
