Bleach, running since August 2001, is now entering its final arc. Considered one of the 'big three' alongside One Piece and Naruto, it is a stunning announcement for a manga that the artist intended to continue for a decade as of a year ago.

However, failing numbers due to a (regrettably) boring last arc has forced Tite Kubo to complete the final chapter in this long-running series. While the new manga arc has proven to be quite interesting in the four chapters since this arc's debut, only time will tell if readers will be excited enough for Bleach to continue after this year.

Unexpectedly, the anime has been cancelled in Japan, meaning it will end with the Lost Shinigami arc. Previously, while the manga was progressing, a 'filler' arc would be developed in order to continue the series while Tite Kubo continued his weekly series. It is currently unknown whether the animators will wait until the manga is finished to create their final arc of the anime (as in Inuyasha), or simply create an 'anime-only' ending that is very common these days.

RIP Bleach, the first of the 'Big Three' to hear the death knell.
