View Full Version : Server Racks n ting
Hey guys,
I'm looking to purchase a server for like testing, needs to be kinda high spec really but I was wondering if anybody knows of places to get cheap, but decent server hardware? inb4 dell. also would you recommend rack, tower or w.e
ive got a windows server license already
Get some second hand SuperMicro on eBay?
****, that's a very good idea LOL.
Also, server grade hardware is almost certainly overkill for whatever you're doing.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Dell either.
Nah there's nothing wrong with Dell at all, it's just I didn't want people to jump in with just that. :P
Alright though, so what, just a medium spec PC should do?

I've handed CCS Media £25,000 recently to build some awesome servers - they did a fantastic job of finding a great solution. Check them out.

Depends on what you're doing and how much you want to spend.

For a home server? No need for server grade hardware. I used my old Q6600 based build as an ESXi host for months before I came to uni.
Also, Dell or HP are always my first choice for server grade hardware ;)
If you are only testing something then assuming you have a decently powerful machine then you can just run a load of VMs on it, perhaps buying some more RAM if needed.
