ive spoke about this with a few people before but it's quite an interesting topic.

basically, how do you feel about yourself in the mirror compared to yourself in pictures? which one do you like best? i quite like my mirror image but i know its not what everyone else sees. when i see pictures people say "that's what you look like". i don't like it. then i got my friend to look in the mirror with me and she said "you look pretty much the same but better in real life" whereas i feel better looking in the mirror than i do looking at pictures.

studies say its because we spend almost every day looking in the mirror multiple times that when we see our 'real' face, we don't process it properly and that's why we don't like it. i was watching a video about couples who were shown a mirror image of themselves and an unaltered one. they then had to choose the best one of themselves and of their partners. most people chose the mirror image of themselves as their favourites while the partner would choose the unaltered one as their favourite ;

"Our results follow the hypothesis quite closely... 60%" wait WHAT that is not following closely lol. 75% overall taking into account both... that is not conclusive at all.

Generally I prefer how I look in the mirror, however if I get a picture I do like I won't have to flip it to make it look like "me" or anything. My facial symmetry is pretty good anyway so that might be it but still it's far from being a totally solid theory

Inseriousity.

I don't like either but the mirror tends to be better cos cameras always tend to catch me out when im halfway through a blink or about to sneeze :P

yeah, i prefer how i look in the mirror to pictures. but then i compensate by learning my best angles. that sounds a bit weird but ahwell, i hate horrible pictures of myself like any normal person...

I prefer mirror, purely because looking in the mirror won't be recorded, as a picture can be taken and put on sites etc

no defo pictures i can't stand mirrors... my phone camera tends to make me look x10 better than what i actually look like so it's fab.

mirror, with photos comes the lighting and all those other things that can make you look awful

I'm not photogenic in the slightest so i hate photos but can also hate some mirrors due to lighting so really, i hate both. generally I think I look the same in both?

I’ve read about this before. Apparently majority of people prefer how they look in the mirror as they have become familiar with that image, obviously, in a mirror, everything is reversed, which is why people think they look different in photos. Wedding photographers often flip their shots as it’s generally accepted that the bride and groom will prefer it as its closer to what they see in the mirror.

Me personally, I don’t photograph very well, so much prefer how I look in the mirror.

I much prefer the mirror. For some reason, everything looks more beautiful there. I have a lot of mirrors back at home and there are a couple nice ones in this hotel. I am always looking in them. That is part of where the whole (huge) trend of 'mirror pictures' came from, I think.
