Lee

That is FSX, though there's no reason as to why FS9 should be below a reasonably less quality...

FSX will hit your PC hard if you dont have a decent sized hard drive - just so you know :)

@xxMATTGxx (http://www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=1020) was that you? I cant land to save my life.

if you have the ils frequencies for runways you can programme them in and use autoland for a while until you're like 200ft up

also lol i used to be a controller on vatsim back in the day. stansted luton and (for a brief while) i was on heathrow. gd times

Autoland until 200ft? Autoland can land the plane :)

yeah hence the term 'autoland'. i mean if you struggle to land but want to do the actual landing part yourself you can use autoland then disengage autopilot at 200ft. by that time everything's configured correctly you just literally need to not touch anything until you tilt back a bit and touchdown

Let's prevent some confusion here.

There is no "FSX 2004"

In terms of what you are talking about it's the following:

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight

Now this has been called many things over the years and people call it: Flight Simulator 2004, FS2004 or FS9.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Flight Simulator X or FSX.

In terms of your ILS issue. You need to have the ILS tuned before you even start turning to line up with the runway. If you've got the autopilot in, depending on whether you're flying a Boeing or Airbus there will be a button you need to press, the APPR button. Also put in AP1 and AP2 once the approach button has been pressed. This will allow an autoland correctly. Once you've done that, if you fly the aircraft on a heading thats about 45 degrees off from being lined up with the runway the aircraft will automatically line its self up and start descending. Then when you're at about 200 feet you can disconnect the autopilot and land it :)

So I play FS004 a lot. With FSX I hear you can take passengers, request fuel etc.

I'm at Liverpool airport atm on free flight and I'm wondering how to request a taxi to a jetway to get passengers, when I press Request parking and fuel options... nothing is there. The only thing to request is to take off.

Will do. Is there a way to save in the air so if it does crash I don't need to start again.

Lee
27-03-2012, 02:12 PM
Yeah just fly your flight and at the point you want to "Checkpoint" it go to the first menu on the top (Think its flight?) and select save flight and then to load it you load up FSX menu where you normally select planes etc theres a button called "Load" press that and then select the saved flight and Fly Now!

I was saying to Zuth that it's useful to save this when you are on approach then you can load it up and practise your landings :)

Is this FSX? There is a few problems with and there is a number of fixes on various flight sim forums. You should probably search it on Google or on a forum such as FlightSimWorld and Avsim Forums as they will probably have solutions.

I'm not too good at videoing, but my first ever ILS approach & landing without assistance. Before you watch I forgot to mute my mic and was sitting next to the TV so it's a good idea to mute the video.

Also, the reason it didn't really go to plan was one major thing I forgot... I forgot to retract flaps, activate speedbrake and autobrakes too. Also, idk what some youtube video was going on about reverse thrusters, idk if you need those or not! Anyway, I also didn't realise I didn't retract my landing gear until about 700 metres from the ground.

Any tips? I did the landing at 135 knots, is that too fast?

Lee

135kt is a fine speed, Reverse Thrust is important. When you touch down hold F2, it makes the engines spin backwards effectively in reverse mode like a car.

Good start... at least you're on the centre line :D Reverse thrust is nearly always used on landing unless you want to stop towards the end of the runway. Arming speedbrakes is a big must... otherwise you'll end up taking off again :D 135 knots sounds like its in the right ball park. You seemed to flare the aircraft a bit too much as well... looked like you ended up with a tailstrike. Onfinal approach you should be around the 4/5 degree pitch mark. Increasing to maybe 6/7 for the flare.

Deeb
27-03-2012, 05:09 PM
Intricat For some reason the autopilot always has a 6-7 nose pitch even when flying straight with autothrottle and hold alt on. But yeah I think I burst my tires and that was a bad land but you can only learn from mistakes. I'm gonna fly to Belfast and try again.
,Alpha, Thanks I'll do that. Is it F1 to get them to go forwards again?

The pitch attitude will change though when you have full flap and landing gear out. Yeah F1 will put them at idle. You don't need full reverse, just enough for it to engage. Basically... you'll see the doors open on the engine pods, you know its on then :)

Try right clicking the shortcut and:

- Running as administrator
- Compatibility tab -> Run in compatibility for WinXP SP3

Long shot but sometimes works.

Ben, uninstall those addons we did and try it if that doesnt work reinstall FSX and we'll add them back. That does risk PMDG breaking of course unless u can reinstall it.

Thanks Will but no luck, it only happens when I click, Missions, Multilayer and Free flight so it must be an addon :(

I don't have fsx installed right this second but if you go to the install folder (Something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X)there should be an executable called fsx.exe (Might be fs9.exe instead), right click that instead and do the same.

I have a Compaq. Top of the range pretty much. Even comes from the creators of the Simulator games, no matter how good your PC/Laptop is, considering how powerful the simulators are, there is a 85% chance of it not working right, unless in a $2million simulator machine.
