It's my bday on 26th so I've managed to con my dad into buying them. can't wait, was worried that they'd turn it into twilight but it sounds like they've stayed true to the books :D
i honest to god have never heard of it until about 4 weeks ago on tumblr. doesn't look like my kind of thing at all.

The books are as bad, if not worse than Twilight. A poorly cobbled together story which rips off several novels and films which are already well established in popular culture. As if that wasn't bad enough, the author had to throw in a love triangle along with the female narrative to fill in the wish-fulfillment shaped hole which Twilight left in the market. But fair does to whoever marketed the film because they've managed to wrangle in a large amount of people who will go to their graves swearing that Twilight is the worst thing unsliced bread yet will happily pay money to see a film adaptation of a book which is also absolute garbage.
yeah i only seen it from tumblr but it sounds like battle royale? from what i've read.. is it? cause then i want to read the books.
The premise does sound a lot like BR, Running Man and many other works (none of which you'll find credited for inspiration or acknowledged anywhere however).
The books themselves are just plain badly written. I mean beyond the story and the poorly-disguised plagiarism, the sentence structure and grammar are just horrible. The whole thing reads like it's been written by a child. Never mind that they're written in first person...

I loved the books so hopefully this film will be just as good :) going to see it on sunday :D

Harry Potter rips off several novels and films as well, that has never really bothered me if it intrigues me. I never said it wasn't flawed, the writing can be appauling at times, her flowery poetic prose and lack of subtlety are irritating at times. Despite that, I would disagree that the love triangle is like Twilight in the sense that Katniss is not dependent on Peeta/Gale in the way that Bella is on Edward. There is a political dimension to the books that I like that is missing in the Twilight novels. I read books based on whether I like the story not on its sentence structure. I enjoyed the story and so yes, I will happily pay money to see the film.

Yeah essentially a white tween drama version of Battle Royale

I dunno who this chap is that's saying that they're poorly written because they're really not, the love triangles unnecessary I'll admit and peetas pathetic but the arena scenes are really good
who cares if it's influenced by BR and the running man? what's the problem?

Not saying it's a problem, just an easy way of describing what the film's about

i had no idea what this was till about a week ago, my sister got the books and i read all three in three days. big fan of the books but im not sure how the movie will turn out. on one hand, the author wrote the screenplay, but on the other it's meant to be a violent book, and i can't see how much of it they'll keep in when the film is a 12. i know that sounds odd if you haven't read the books, but you know what i mean if you have.
like someone said, it's definitely going to turn into a twilight-esque hype train but the books are far superior to the twilight books and i can't imagine anything worse than the twilight films

My friend was informing me about this today and she said she's going to see the film, but if I didn't read the books first it would seem **** apparently because apparently there's only 7 seconds of blood/gore in the film (hence it being a 12) and it ruins the book if you compare how much blood and violence there is in the books e.g. Someone being torn apart by animals? (think that's one).
Might read the books if I can be bothered - however, the film did look intriguing when advertised.

I just came back from seeing it and it was much better than I expected!
Would have liked more of certain scenes and it needed more background info as my friend (who hasn't read the books) had a few questions but it didn't feel Twilight-y at all.
I didn't mind that there wasn't a lot of blood and gore because it was still quite intense! :)
(Obviously I still prefer the books but I was never bored watching it)

as some may know, and as seen in my profile picture, i went to the European premiere
if you want any more pictures, like the ticket or the 1/2m poster i got or the book signed then just say ;)
it was a great movie, but if you like sitting near the front in a big screening, with a big screen, the camera makes you dizzy
and the green screening can be very terrible at times
thats all i have to say
:)

Amazing. Just come back from watching it and it was everything I'd hoped and more. The added scenes that weren't in the book really added to the film and President Snow was terrifying! I was worried that there'd be 'team peeta' fangirls who'd scream/shriek in delight everytime he did something sweet or romantic but the only annoying person in the cinema was my sister sat next to me asking my dad questions every 10 minutes. arghhh. Thought they did a good job at adapting the book. Only gripe I'd have is that "I WATCHED YOU EVERY NIGHT" is not romantic, it's gross. :P

Got back from watching it about 4 hours ago and I've only just stopped shaking :o :o and it wasn't physically that scary, it's just the idea of children being pushed together and having to fight to the death: kill or be killed.

I just watched it online because I couldn't wait any longer haha. I thought the film was good, little things annoyed me, like Buttercup being the wrong colour, Katniss not checking to see if the fence was on and the prep team not being all friendly and happy, but overall the film was pretty true to the books. One major thing I didn't like was the lack of Katniss/Peeta time together.
I think they could've dedicated a bit more time to the cave scene, and one kiss during the whole film was pretty stupid, especially as that was meant to be 'their thing', let alone what it leads to in the rest of the trilogy

I saw it a week ago last Saturday and it was pretty good. The part where the girl dies is so horrible although I really don't get why people teamed up at the start because you would be in an awkward situation at the end where you are like, erm guys, only 1 can win...
It was good and I loved the ending :D Can't wait for the next one!

about to watch this, hoping its not a waste of my time since ive heard its both **** and good :(
Minor spoilers
I watched it last night and I think it was a decent movie but I couldn't help feel it could have been better if it wasnt constrained to a 12A, I really think it could have taken a darker route with more gore with the characters acting more realisticly to if it were real and they were put in that situation.
Minor spoilers
I've never read the book so I don't know how true it is to the storyline but I didn't feel like the girl really loved the other district 12 dude who went with her and was just acting like it so she could win the hearts of the public to win the hunger game
I felt bad for the dude left back home and always felt like she always loved him at heart
I might read the book though now, just trying to finnish GoT

They had to tone down the goriness because they really didn't want a rating above a 12A 'cause the books were originally aimed at 12-15 year olds and they would have lost most of their audience.
And what you said in the spoiler is exactly right. If you read the book(s), everything is explained.
Plus I totally recommend reading them! The books are much better than the film. Yeah, the film was really good but it's so hardddd to fit that much into a maximum of 2h30!

Ohhh that's good then I didn't know if it was bad acting or something , they did quite well if that's actually how it was in the books and yeah I'll be sure to give them a read in the future, thanks!

ooh that'd be quite good and a definite money-spinner I imagine to release two versions. I wish Harry Potter (especially the later ones) could've done that!
